Premium Unleaded for 14.9c a Litre

A PUMA petrol station here in Metro WA set the price for their premium unleaded fuel at 14.9c a litre by mistake when it should have been $1.41 a litre on Saturday.

Word soon spread and people were coming from far and wide with as many jerry cans as they could muster.

Given that the fuel station was unmanned, the cheap fuel was available from 6:30am until 2:30pm when the pumps were shut off when along came the bargain hunter 'grinch' who ruined it for everyone by alerting PUMA Energy to the error. There's always one sad sack who ruins it for everyone else. Given they're a major petroleum company, I don't think it affected their profits by much.

They were lucky this didn't appear on OzBargain……it could have been far worse for them if we found out, as we love to buy in bulk whenever there's a good bargain to be had.

    Thanks TA. Good read.

It was like old days when it costed an arm and a leg to make oversea phone calls.
When the pay phone was filled up with coins, it would no longer take more money and calls became free in that telephone box.
Overseas student would line up and make free calls home.

  • Here in SA, I've never heard of an unmanned petrol station (AFAIK, we don't have PUMA either). Do they exist elsewhere in Oz?

Edit: Apparently we do have a few PUMA stations in SA, including an unmanned one in Port Augusta. They seem to be mainly intended for long-haul transport and other commercial users, rather than the average consumer.
