My current post-paid plan has ended, and I'm currently looking for the most cost effective way to buy an iPhone 6s. Looking at the costs per month at virgin mobile a couple weeks back, $75 seems a tad much, especially with only 1gb data included and $450 worth of calls.
Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to get the phone on a plan for cheap?

I've found buying outright and getting the plan you'd like from anywhere is the best combo for flexibility purposes…
Can be more expensive depending on your plan requirements. Take the iPhone 6s Plus 64GB and compare going on contract with Virgin or buying outright with Amaysim with a high data usage requirement.
On Virgin you can get their $80 plan with $19 handset repayments. This plan includes 9GB of data per month and unlimited calls+text. Over 24 months this option costs $2376
Buying the phone outright costs $1379. Amaysim offer a 7GB plan with unlimited calls+text for $54.90. The combined cost of the phone and the plan over 24 months is $2696.60
Buying outright in this example costs $320.60 more
The same comparison with a low data requirement.
Virgin offer the iPhone on their $40 plan with a $45 handset repayment. This plan includes 1GB of data per month and unlimited calls and text. Total cost over 24 months is $2040.
Amaysim offer a plan with the same unlimited calls and text and 1GB of data for $24.90 per month. Combined the the cost of the phone outright the total cost over 24 months is $1976.6
Outright is marginally cheaper but requires a very high outlay. I would suspect many people would rather just pay the $2.60 a month extra to avoid the significant outright cost. Moderate data plans sit somewhere in between these two comparisons. You may also save money by going with a Vodafone MVNO if that happens to take your fancy for some insane reason.
Virgin is the cheapest unless you're already an Optus Home Broadband customer and can get the bundle discount.
Thanks for the thoughts guys. The US exchange rate also doesn't help.. I think i might just get the virgin plan then by the looks of things.
