$249 Shipped - Milwaukee M18 Compact Drill & Impact Driver with 2ah Batteries @ Sydney Tools

80

This can usually be had for $300 or a little under, but $249 with free shipping is outstanding.

I've used these quite a lot and they are very good tools. The slim batteries (2ah) are great, but are going to be phased unfortunately.

  • Are they really made in Milwaukee?

      Milwaukee, China.

      • thanks…

Actually, it's pronounced "mill-e-wah-que" which is Algonquin for "the good land."

Techtronic or TTI, is an investment holding company.[1] Its products include Milwaukee, AEG, Ryobi, Homelite, Hoover US, Dirt Devil, and Vax

      • Wonder if they also own TTI hand tools sold by Total Tools…

    What exactly does that mean?

    • most other brands are pushing 4amp hour batteries nowadays.

With entry level drills? I don't think so

Sydney tools don't have a good rep, but Milwaukee gear is some of the best you can buy for a reasonable price.

All my drills are Milwaukee now, and I've been very happy with them, and in the maintenance world they are everywhere.

  • Bit of a novice. How does this compare to the fatmax from masters. The fatmax seems to have a slightly higher torque but I'm not sure about overall quality usability

Fatmax is a DIY product (and priced as such), such as Ryobi and Bosch Green. Though I haven't actually reviewed them personally.

Milwaukee is at the top of the heap of the popular trade brands (along with Makita), and are suitable for full trade use. Once you pick up and use this drill (and impact driver), you'll realise that it's overkill for home use. But at this price, even home users can purchase, which makes me a happy man.

    • Stanley Fatmax are re-skinned Porter Cable "20V MAX" tools (both companies owned by Stanley Black&Decker Corp). See here: http://www.portercable.com/20Volt

If you search for US reviews (and specifically comparison tests), you could get a better idea of the performance of the tools; I haven't seen anything here in Australia and I can't comment on them from experience. Although I tend to agree with Dwain above (OTT?), the Milwaukee's considered a step above.

  • Do not buy anything potentially requiring warranty from Sydey Tools (maybe ok if you are in Sydney)

They didn't even respond to my warranty request for a dremel. I dialed their number so many times, they never picked up. No response via email.

To fix my problem I found a local company authorised to do Bosch repairs under warranty, the guy behind the counter there said "Sydney Tools? Hah. We have to do a lot of warranties on stuff theyve sold"

Sydney Tools are ABSOLUTE GARBAGE. You have been warned.

    • With a brand like Milwaukee or many of the other high end tools I don't really need to rely on Sydney tools. I can just go to the closest service center fortunately.
