And the AA 8pk Chocolate pack was going for $16.80 at Dick Smith on eBay about two weeks ago.
I did say this is the everyday price and there are better deals if you are willing to wait. Everyday price for 8 x AA or 8 x AAA at dse is 54.95
$10 dollars more expensive but DSE still have the Sanyo 'Rouge' Eneloop AA 8 Packs for $39.95 in stock; and they are made in Japan, hence their power levels are over 9000 (more charge cycles, higher voltages, more consistent output).

Someone got a parking ticket this morning. Let's not even analyse it.
But we're talking batteries that have twice the lifetime of the Panasonic Chinaloops and deliver more reliably consistent output.
$10 extra for me is a small price to pay for that extra level of confidence (yes, I grabbed three of those Sanyo Rouge 8 Packs as I have a strictly, single-origin, virgin cell, Eneloop collection that will not be contaminated by Panasonic knock-offs).
Why not just buy the amazon basics cells?

@ideasman: Yup, they fall back down to around $22 from time to time. Last time they were $22 I snapped up three. Highly suggest you grab them as they are a clearance product and will only last for so long.

Another option is Aldi LSD rechargeables, $5.99 for a 4 pack AA or AAA if you can't wait for $15.00 8 pack of Eneloops.
Costco sell 8 AA's and 4 AAA's (all made by Sanyo in Japan), and a Chinese-made charger in a pack for about $35.
this isnt a good price is it? the sparkle or chocolate 8 x AA or 8 x AAA packs are under $20 from dse on special (which is about every 2nd week?)
