Fuses for Simpson 2001 65-637 (or 647) Oven

Friend's old reliable suddenly played up, 3 of 4 cooking plates and the grill decided not to work. Quick look at the manual and may be a fuse problem.

Where in Perth can we buy the fuses? Google hasn't shown any good results.

I remember a government program where you can swap an old electric oven with a new one, but can't find the link.

TIA

    • They don't supply them anymore.

  • Usually you only see fuses in very old stoves, 70s and earlier. If the manual said "fuses", as in plural, it may be referring to if the stove is wired into a 2 or 3 phase switchboard. In which case it would be a 2 phase circuit with 2 fuses or a double circuit breaker. This is fairly common in country areas , but not often seen in the suburbs.

Most stoves are wired internally for 2 phases - each phase, or line in works half the stove, and these are joined, looped together, at the connection point at the rear of the stove for a single phase installation. If there is nothing blown or tripped at the switchboard, ( ALWAYS turn the main switch off before removing a fuse) you need a sparky. If the stove has solid hotplates, which are beginning to dome up in the centre, take the opportunity to move it along. Good luck with it!

    • There are 4 fuses based on the manual. This was bought 1982 and is hardwired.

Looking at buying a new as last option. Or maybe a good 2nd hand one.

  • are the fuses located behind the control panel? open that up (I'm assuming that there are 2 screws which will be on under side the control panel-maybe when you open the oven door). have a look at the fuses and see what they are rated. search by rating.

    • Yes, behind the control panel there is a cover that needs to be removed to access the 4 fuses. Can this fuse be bought on an electrical supply store or Bunnings?

      • get the specs of the fuses and google them.

they should be available at electrical store (jaycar, etc). not sure about bunnings. call them.

  • if a fuse has blown then there is probably an underlying reason, maybe a dodgy switch or element.

    • Hoping it's only because of the age. Power interruptions are quite rare and could not be the reason.

  • Can't find fuses and a check with a repairer got suggested to replace the oven due to the cost of repair is dear. Thanks for the help guys
