iMac or Computer with (GTX970 or GTX960 or RX390)

Which graphic card should I get if I won't be playing much games. I will only be playing games such as grid 3 , euro truck simulator 2 and cs:go. The computer will primarily be used to do school work and I expect it to last 2 years. My budget is 1-2k.

    mac are massively over priced.
and certainly NOT meant for gaming at all.

    $899

this will play all those games perfectly

ofc would be cheaper if you built it yourself but even this with the GTX 960 will play any game at all.

  • Are you currently working on windows or OSX? I would suggest you stick with the operating system you are familiar with unless you enjoy tinkering with settings and exploring through option menus to get things set up the way you want.

holden93's linked PC would definitely play all those games but don't forget you also need to buy a monitor, speakers/headset and keyboard/mouse if you don't already have all those items and this can easily add up to $300-400 if you want decent quality hardware.

    • I'm currently on both Mac OSX

In my experience, its generally cheaper to maintain a separate gaming computer as well as a entry level mac than to buy a more powerful mac so that you can play occasional games.

        • Yeah it depends on how much OP plans to game.

It would be worthwhile reading some reviews on the Intel hd6000 to see if they actually delivered some decent performance.

Euro truck simulator and csgo should easily run on it but I'm guessing grid 3 wouldn't run very well.

As a Windows user, I have found osx to be a nightmare whenever I have to use it and I would imagine going in the opposite direction would be similar.

Given that OP is used to osx I still think it would be better for them to stick with what they're familiar with and sacrifice gaming so they don't have to wrestle with the OS for basic things while they're studying.

        • @jzdhgkd:

I think he uses both Windows and OSX, and he seems to be ok with using either one.

  • Which imac would you get if you got one? The 21.5in 4k imac is $2299 RRP.

Just note that imac has a laptop cpu(last gen) with integrated graphics, no ssd, and a small monitor. Integrated graphics does not go well with gaming on a 4k monitor.

If you got a pc, you can get much better performance for your money, and can always upgrade your gpu later on to play newer games.

    hackintosh - http://www.tonymacx86.com/

Part 1. buy the compatible hardware, and slap it all together (or get a computer store to put together for you)

Part 2. Follow the guides to install, fairly easy to do, voila! mac and windows os!

I love mine and dual boot off a 256gb ssd, very quick!
