Local Product Vs eBay product

I see many electronic stores have their own ebay store. Can I ask what's the difference between a product in their local store and product in their ebay store when the product in ebay is slightly cheaper than their local store. Let's say for example ipad is cheaper in their ebay store than local. Why do they do this if both are brand new? unless the product in ebay has been modified somehow

      Not really answering OPs question.
      
      Reason is due to Ebay marketplace being much more competitive therefore a finer profit margin required to make a sale.
