Men Suit and white shirt for Academic Job Interview

My Husband will have an interview in a few days. He needs Men Suit and white shirt for 50+ year old. I am not sure about suit color dark Navy or black? Budget may be under $250.

Any suggestion is very appreciated.

Go check out myers clearance racks. Tend to have nice suits that are marked down and then have a further 50% off ontop.

This. DJs have a sale on as well.

Navy for a job interview is best.

    Navy.

Black = wedding, funeral or reservoir dogs themed party

dark grey/charcoal is a better colour. Dont go the shiny material of course.
Target has a sale 2 suits for $148, see what they are like. http://www.target.com.au/c/men/businesswear/suit-jackets-pan…
and as mentioned above check the mark downs at Myer. (I got suit trousers for $100 down to $50 ended up around $30 last week)

  • If he isn't going to need to turn up in a suit everyday it might be worth looking at the Op Shops or ex rental suit places. Just have a really good look to make sure it isn't riddled with moth holes or stained.

    • He only wears suit for interview, wears jacket and shirt for everyday.

  • Thanks Guys, what style do you suggest, single breast or double?

      I'd go with single.

    • This is totally dependant upon what suits him/his body shape. Personally I only wear single, but double breasted doesn't work on me at all, I'm a larger build.

You can get a full suit from Target for less than $100 when they have clearance sales, and they always have plenty available.

Trousers and blazer for $99 in current target brochure.

    Check out Hallensteins.
You need to know your sizing pretty well though. I recently got a suit jacket, trousers, shirt & tie for $120.

Single breasted and if possible get no pleats on pants. Gives him a slimmer appearance. Navy is best with 2 buttons.

I would choose a tighter fit over looser fit. Tighter fit gives him a tailored look. Looser looks like he is sloppy. He will complain it feels restrictive but will look a million bucks. Best of luck in interview

    • Is two buttons the current style? Damn.

I have a few suits bought over the decades, and therefore have, in purchase order, a double breasted, a single breasted with three buttons, and a single breasted with four buttons.

Two button single breasted and slim is the current style - even further one button!

However hang onto your old suits, you never know when they might come back into popularity. Fashions change, styles do not.

If he will continue wearing the suit then Sires will also have something within that price range, I recommend not buying a shirt from them (expensive and not the best quality).
Peter Jackson unfortunately will be about $100-$200 above that price range.

I recently bought very high quality shirts from Charles Tyrwhitt online they are $40 each so might be on the upper end of your budget for a shirt.

I would recommend a 100% wool suit. They look, feel and breathe better.

Costco at Crossroads Sydney had Pierre Cardin shirts last week for $20 and Calvin Klein for $25 all 100% cotton. Scored a couple and they look good.

    • Agreed. Polyester is terrible
