  • I can never seem to find any dick smith gift cards at Ashfield Coles =/

    • Can you raincheck gift cards?

      • Unfortunately, nope. Have tried myself - no dice.

    • Try a less popular Coles. Like the Coles in Birkenhead Point.

  • YESSSS! Time to stock up so I can get a sweet fitbit HR!

    • Why not buy from TGG ebay store?

      • Large is only on sale. I need small. And plus I'm too cheap to pay for shipping since I can't C+C!

  • I don't see the catalogue, it says 5 days to go?

  • Can I buy gift card from Coles e gift card ?

    • Yes in self service.

  • +3

Keen for those DSE giftcards for my iPhone.

    • +2

Just be a little careful with buying a large value of gift cards as you can lose all your money if the issuer of the gift card goes into administration (bust).

Does anyone know who is the holder of the debt (your money) for DSE gift cards?

Don't just assume it is DSE.

      • DSE is likely to get bought out by PE again instead of going completely bust. So I think the gift cards are safe.

        • yeah but still, it's a worry. they could rename/rebrand DSE and make all gift cards void. it's always a risk and one i don't want to take anymore. if you're buying something, buy the cards only a week or two before you plan to buy something big. mitigates the risk then.

    • Are Dick Smith carrying 6S Plus in stock yet? Website shows online ordering but not C&C which suggests stock is not widely available. Any sightings?

    • Bought $1000 worth of them, my local store only had $50 denominations of them. now to walk in shop to buy. Can guarantee I won't have a happy person serving me!

  • +1

Considering Dick Smith and their dodgy dicking habits, they'll probably have a condition on their gift cards like "gift card cannot be used for anything we sell".

    • +3

Actually no :) u can buy anything by giftcard

      • They shouldn't because technically gift card is a cash value, just like prepaid mobile, you pay in advance and get your items later.

  • +2

Telstra currently have the $30 starter kits for $15 (https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/30-…) so $10 is a bonus!

    • +2

Still have like 5 unopened Telstra $30 starter kits!

      • I plan to stockup also!

    • Would anyone know if Telstra allows RP to be bought on League of Legends? It is charged through mobile payments so I assume it is part of premium phone services? (Assuming someone thrifty who happens to play LoL would lurk in this forum)

  • anyone ever got a gopro hero 4 black from DSE? in store? not listed on website, and store i called said its not in the system.

    • You can only get it from their store in Sydney airport

      • oh wow, sadly it's too big a risk. if it's not in stock the day i transit, or the price is hiked. it'll be a problem.

        bugger, and thx anyway.

  • Can I combine multiple gift cards to buy something very expensive? (Apple products?) . Also, how do you receive the extra amount? for example buy 8 x100 gift cards, how can I get the extra $80?

    • +2

Yes of course. The extra amount is applied to the gift card eg; you buy a $100 gift card but you get $110 value.

    • Yes I used 5 $100 gift cards once.

      • +3

bought a macbook air using 12 x $100 gift cards once

  • +1

That'll help pay off my Pebble time nicely.

  • Can you apply for trs refund when using DS cards? Thanks!

    • +1

yes you can, the refund process perhaps less 'pain in the bum' than purchasing, especially when you purchased the new iPhone and they automatically put your order from available to … back-order

      • DS website shows available stock for most models… Any idea how long for the back order? Traveling out of the country on 23rd November…

    • +1

Remember to let the people at dicksmith know you are claiming TRS. If the purchase is over $1000 they need to put your name and address on the docket before they finish the sale.

  • What size Frantelle bottles are we talking? The big bottles?

    • I'm guessing it's the 600ml ones (same as Coles' $7 slab).

  • +1

    Gotta love 10% extra dick

  • +6

Do you recommend I go into coles today and hide some gift cards under a box of products that don't sell well?

    • Oh gosh, I was actually thinking the exact same thing yesterday when I saw this thread!

    • theyd still work if you took them home unactivated then brought them to self checkout when the deal goes active

    • -4

I did this last night at work (I work at Coles), managed to put aside 10 $100 gift cards in my locker so I'll grab them today and will be all set.

  • So does that mean you could buy the gift card (10% disco) then get the $30 Helstra starter for (effectively) $9. If this is the case using the Freedom plan, calls would work out at ~6.8c/minute

  • Is there a limit on the Telstra starter kits?

    • ive bought 4 or so at a time no problem

      • +1

I mean when this sale begins.

The last time they had this, i remember the counter lady being a b**** about selling more than 1.

        • If it says on the catalogue one per customer then I suppose she had grounds. But sounds like you just got someone power hungry. Try someone else. Last time I stocked up they were on sale too. What kind of ozbargainer do you take me for?

        • @tomkun01:

How often are they on sale for $10 each?
I recall they're pretty regularly on sale for $15 (they're on sale on the Telstra website right now!)

        • +1

@cwongtech: No idea..I always stock up way too much then it takes months to get rid of them

  • Can the prepaid sims be used for a data-only plan for tablets?

    • Yes. You can activate as either Mobile Broadband (Data Pass), or Mobile Phone (Freedom+ plan recommended).

  • Can I buy an iPhone with DS gift cards? I am planning to refund the tax at airport too. Is it possible to get around 20% off in total?!?!?!

    • +1

      Yep. If they sell them.

    • +1

Yes you can, am actually using one using DS gift cards from last time.

Just be careful, as they were a bit dodgey. I bought the iphone when their website said it was in stock, 1 day passed and my order was still saying 'awaiting fulfillment'. sent an email, didnt get a reply. Went to their FB page and amanda there usually replies. Eventually i got a phone a week and a half later, that was when the new stocks arrived.

I say just be sure that they have it in stock or you might wait forever to receive your phone. If you are planning to get TRS, i suppose you are going overseas so just make sure that they have it in stock.

      • +1

yeah call the store in advance otherwise it can end in disappointment. it's a REAL PAIN to get a refund for gift cards, i had to go via socia media channel 3 months later. their online support is useless.

        • couldn't I get refund with coles receipt?!

        • @Armin65: once you've made the transaction with DSE, the onus is on them to give you a refund. but with click and collect orders it goes via online dept.

using gift cards in person is safe though (and was how i did it last time).

      • Thanks so much yeug. Yep, I'm going overseas…Currently, they don't stock online, but I will try some stores to buy it (rather than shop online). Does it work?

  • Largest denomination is 100 isnt it

  • Can someone enlighten me as to why people would stock up on prepaid starter kits apart from the fact its 1/3 the price? Can it be used as top up credit?

Edit: I'm referring to the mobile not data Sim kits where you are actually assigned a phone number.

    • Earlier today I've misspent $19.xx dollars just by exceeding a balance in a data sim. Occurred in seconds based on $2MB. Goes this way occasionally, usually my clumsiness.

However, having sourced this for $15 or $10 or $1- originally, and being facilitated/equiped with a skill to exchange/replace this credit on the cheap, incl. from & to Voice SIM(s), really redressed the pain from above incident.

So that is correct, Telstra credit can be moved around in the way that we need or want to manage (alternatively I would consider a replacement service).

The other benefit I noted is in generous expiry (2018/19) timeframe over short dated vouchers you get with e.g vodafone. Greatly convenient to recharge.

    • +1

I usually port between Optus and Telstra every 28/30 days until I run out of starter kits. Then I wait for a deal to show up and just pay the $30 recharge in the meantime. Preferably with Telstra as I can use the $30 recharge credit towards apps and google music subscription.

The starter kits for Telstra/Optus are regullary discounted anyway, so I usually don't run out of stock. The issue is getting the Coles/Woolworths attendant to find a starter kit. Majority of the time they have no idea and tell me to go the stand where they sell the $2 sims. I have to tell them to check one of the drawers behind the counter. Also these starter kits have a habit of selling out at my local coles/woolworths.

    • +1

Edit: I'm referring to the mobile not data Sim kits where you are actually assigned a phone number.

fyi both assign phone numbers as they're effectively the same starter kits - just depends upon the offer activated :)

  • Grabbed the Telstra starter kit for $10 today (actually, $0 because of flybuys). They didn't have any on the floor, but had a bunch behind the service desk (Jindalee).

  • Plenty of Dick Smith gift card at Coles @ Chatswood Chase… Just bought worth $1200..

  • +1

grabbed two telstra kits no issue.

  • Just wondering if I can use the started kits for long term mobile data?
Am I correct in assuming that they give 3gb data and expire in 30days? So if I buy a bunch of them I can just activate as needed once the prior one expires/exhausts its data?

Just need to find USB dongle thing I guess, assume these can be found quite cheaply?

  • Update on Sydney (Dick Smith gift cards):
All inner west stores sold out (Burwood, Ashfield, Leichhardt, Broadway, Waterloo)

    Availability:
    Illawong (~5 of $50)
    Casula Mall
    Wattlegrove
    Chipping Norton Market
    Glenquarie

  • Seems this DSE offer is pretty regular. Hoping for another in a few weeks time.
