I have a desktop which turns on but no video to monitor. I don't know if this is a simple problem to fix as I need to put in a new CPU and a want to put in a SSD drive. I have a local PC repair shop close to me but want to know how much roughly I would be looking to pay to fix it. Anyone know a good PC repair shop around Campsie, Burwood that does a good job in repairs and for reasonable price. Also is there any service where they can come to my house to do the job I mentioned and what are the prices if there is.

Yes the monitor is functional. Im using hdmi. The graphics card is a seperate card not on board. I may need to put the new cpu in and install the ssd. It may be software as I have to also install os.What steps should I do first.
I'm keen to know if there are any good shops around your same area too!
In terms of someone coming to the home, I looked into some services a few weeks ago (geeks2u etc), and the prices are insane. They don't publish them, but from what I understood from forums, it's something like $130-$150/hr - and if they can't fix it on the spot, you'll have to agree to them taking away the PC/laptop anyway + associated repair costs (especially if it's hardware I guess).
So I figured it's easier to just walk in to a shop…
(If I can't be bothered diagnosing / fixing it myself).I wont be using geek2u then. Thats insane price to pay if thats correct. I actually have a pc repair shop close to me dont think its that expensive. May call and go in to find out price.
It's actually the normal price across just about an computer techs these days
Here's a handy flowchart I made. Not entirely complete, but it should be comprehensive enough to sort out many issues.
http://imgur.com/vmZRd0sIf you get to the end of it and there's no fix, then you can start blaming a failed component. Could be a bad PSU, motherboard, bad RAM etc.
For monitors with multiple outputs, ensure that it's currently set to display from the correct input. Look for a source button on the monitor itself, or within its menu and check that it's set to display your HDMI input.
There are two good stores in the Enfield area that are super cheap. They are relatively large warehouses with lots of hardware available. Up to you to choose which one you want as I don't want to be seen favouring one or the other.
There isn't anything cheap in the Campsie area as the two stores I know are less than 30 square meters and are outrageously overpriced. Furthermore, they are missing all the hardware available to do on the spot repairs…
assume one of these is IJK
been around for ages, used to be umart before they split out
parking is generally goodprices are reasonable
by reasonable i mean much better than big chains like hardly normal but not msy or umart end either(sometimes you get specials for individual components which may be cheaper elsewhere but generally speaking overall)have not used them for repairs before though
other one is probably australia computer online
havent used myself but prices look on par with ijkYeah. Any of those would be reasonable once you factor in travel distance and petrol.
totally agree with this comment
sometimes people just neglect to add to this into the equation and only zoom into the paid price
Hi have you done repairs at any of the shops in Enfield, if so how much do they charge. I know only one shop in Campsie near me and its very small probably why he charges so much.
no havent used them for repairs
usually just do it myselfyou would need to contact them for quote
You should fix it yourself. Just come on ozbargain and ask away!
Are you 100% sure the monitor is functional?
Where are you plugging the monitor into?
Is it a discrete graphics card or are you plugging it in onboard?
Are you using VGA, Displayport or mini, DVI, HDMI?
It may be a software issue or a hardware issue.
Last time, my bios had display set onto onboard but I plugged the monitor into the discrete card and had no display, anyway it was a pain.
Just try and diagnose the problem first and find out what's wrong.
