Good luck on this treacherous voyage.

  • May as well get the ipad air 2, but if you do want android, the Galaxy Tab S2 for $435 . http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Samsung-SM-T810NZKEXSA-Galaxy-Tab…

    • The Galaxy Tab S2 shows as $544. What's the difference between buying from local store and ebay? their ebay are refurbished stuff?

      • It's brand new from and can be picked up from the Good Guys, use the coupon code CTGG20 for 20% off.

Try Costco - you may be pleasantly surprised at their pricing for the iPad Air 2

        • Do you know what the price is or just implying it may be a good price?

        • @ozhunter:

not sure why some dill has negged me above.

was at Costco last week and the 128GB was around $200 less then elsewehere - $799 to be exact. Did not look at the 64GB but it would have some similar sort of discount.

      • While Tab S2 has reasonably decent SoC in it (Exynos 5433), you probably need to use Samsung's Game Tuner app and reduce the screen resolution of many 3D games if you want them to run smoothly. Exynos 5433 is not exactly a powerhouse compared to those SoCs developed for gaming and tablets.

    • Is Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet better than Galaxy Tab S2? cause I notice The Good Guys on eBay have it so I could apply the 20% coupon which meets my budget.

      • Cpu and gpu are worse according to benchmarks.

  • Was Shield tablet with tegra x1 released? That probably is the best one to get for games in android. That said good luck, I have my doubts on whether there will be a tablet that ticks all the box.

Can't believe I forgot that one. I'd say it's definitely the best one if want to game on an android tablet.

Cons - around $600 on ebay, 8inch display

Pros - front facing speakers, cpu and gpu, optional controller, nvidia grid http://shield.nvidia.com/games/android

      • You also forgot to mention GeForce Now; their newish streaming-from-the-cloud subscription service.

If you want to play games on your tablet, iPad Air 2 probably is unbeatable if you add things like "no chinese Tablets" etc etc.

The reason being, iPad Air 2 has GPU and CPU that's designed specifically for tablets (tablets can handle more trade off of battery life and overheating vs performance). Those things are rare, not many manufacturers would choose to do this because tablet market is already small as is.

Since many tablet manufacturers just use SoC used for the smartphone, those usually have worse performance (as they were designed with smartphones in mind).
There probably are few SoCs that you can compare it against (i.e. Tegra X1 will likely be better, I've seen comparisons with K1 and K1 was worse). However, those are not available in Australia as of yet.

Also, iOS is better for optimisation as well as things like Metal giving it an advantage as well.

I think if you really want an Android tablet for games, there are not much options out there. Wait for Pixel C, perhaps?
