Brake Booster Pump - 2001 BMW 318i

Hi all,

Been quoted over $1100 from BMW for a brake booster pump for my 2001 318i.

Can't seem to find them anywhere else.

Does anyone know of any parts suppliers that may source for cheaper? Happy to obtain from overseas too.

Thanks

Ps. I'm based in WA.

  • You could try http://clickableautomotive.com.au/

I'd also suggest asking for advice on E46fanatics (forum).

  • Have you tried a wreckers? They usually supply parts with a warranty (such as 3 months) in case it's faulty when installed…

    • Thanks for this! $1100 was for part only.

  • eBay for used.

    These guys for new:

    http://e-acca.com/

    http://realoem.com to get part numbers

Make sure you get OEM only.

  • As others have said, use realoem to find your part number.

Then copy that part number and paste it into your shopping cart at http://www.schmiedmann.com/

If you have a 28 degrees card or similar, this is regularly where I buy all my BMW parts, and after much reasearch, it is consistenly the cheapest place (including delivery and all CC fees). Always purchase in DKK currency, and let your 28 degrees do the conversion.

Although, now with the volatility of the AUD over the last few months, this could have chaned, but not sure.

Not sure exactly which part you require, 'brake booster pump' is a bit vague, as it could a vacuum pump to charge the brake booster, or it could be a strange way of referring to the brake booster itself…?

If it is the latter, then schiedmann wants approx. 570AUD for it, delivered to Aus. Delivery is quick. If the part is in stock, I've ordered on Monday morning AU time, and had it delivered to my door by Friday morning. And it includes FedEx tracking (mine went Denmark to Germany, France, India, China, Singapore, Melbourne - all in 5 days!)

They are also very helpful, when you are ordering, you can place any doubts about your purchase in the comments section (if unsure if you have the correct part) and they can respond and discuss with you before confirming your order.

    • Indeed! I completely missed your post.

So, yes, the eBay items are likely to not be genuine BMW components.

They CAN come off the same production line, but I think that can be very difficult to determine.

Also, for plastic moulded parts, if it is anything like Ford, then the part might require a different tool to produce the 'aftermarket' part, as the original would have the Ford logo and part number moulded into it. Which then one might argue is coming off a different production line (if they have been made to different - and less stringent - tolerances), and potentially of lower quality.

DESPITE all that I have mentioned above, I would recommend OP go for the 'aftermarket' option, given the price difference. And the difference in quality is likely to be negligible, I was just mentioning it for the sake of discussion.

Just one thing to consider, if you BYO part, and something goes wrong, then you might have trouble pinning the issue to someone. One will blame the other. If you get the mechanic to do it start to finish, he is responsible to you 100%. And if you do BYO part, and it's genuine BMW, you might have an easier time if it does come to seeking warranty. Not that I am suggesting the price tag is justifiable in this case, but something to consider.
