Best of The Worse for Shipping Times?

Hey so i order a lot from online retailers what are your thoughts on the shipping times they offer?

i just brought from banggood the first time and its been over 3 weeks and nothing at all yet and i can not track.

Now i know a lot people give gearbest a bad wrap but honestly usually within 2 weeks i receive my stuff unless they don't have stock. then i will be jumping through hoops like i am tony hawk! yea buddy! lol but they do usually offer free tracking which helps i guess (in my head).

Fasttech i always pay for the extra cost to use Australia post it usually only costs a few dollars more and is quick usually 10-12 days.

Now lets come back home to dicksmith to be honest worst shipping ideas ever they split my order up one by one and i had like 8 items shipped separately yes it saves time but then that meant about 5 trips to the newsagent because toll doesn't leave package at the door. my last item came 1 month after the order date and i had to chase it up a few times. Now this is not the first time this has happen with dicksmith!

Amazon is amazing there service is outstanding and the speed of the shipping is great i feel that you can always trust amazon if you are buying straight from them. amazon is usually about 8-10 days.

eBay is always random different sellers and shipping and all!

I am not including smaller sellers they have an excuse.

Now you get to have your say and pick the best of the worse!

Tell us your stories and thoughts on shipping in general!

I've had 5 weeks from China, i've also had 'soz got lost in the post' from China.
I once had a blackberry delivered from the UK in a solid 40 hours and it wasnt that expensive.
The UK's postal service is freaking awesome to Australia! Its a shame you can't say the thing about USPS. I'm currently waiting for something to come from the states via Fedex and its still giving me a transit time of 12 days.. FEDEX.. 12 DAYS…

    • yea i always have issues with DHL personally. usually USPS is quick they are my preferred shipping method . I've only ever used FedEx once so cant say much. when amazon send fishing rods they usually come within about 3 days and its the normal price not express method maybe they don't want the rods broken.

But 40 hours is amazing it takes like 20 hours in the plane

I've had 16 weeks from China. Literally assumed the item was long lost and it turned up.
For items under $5 or so I don't bother paying for tracking or expedited. If it is something I need, like maybe a HDMI cable for a device I've ordered, I might order from two different sellers at $2 each. Still a fraction of the price of going to Jaycar or Dick Smith and very likely at least one will arrive in the next fortnight. I will also pay a few cents extra for a Hong Kong seller, and a few cents more again for a Singapore seller, both times because shipping is more reliable in delivery time.
On ebay there are some local sellers that offer good prices, similar but a little higher than China/Hong Kong that deliver in a couple of days for items like cables, phone cases, memory cards, screen protectors etc.
I haven't bought any of those small item/high mark up things from Dick Smith or Harvey's or whoever for more than a decade.

I understand why they don't allow it but it's annoying with retailers like Dicksmith and Target don't allow the option to leave the package at the door.

OP, in your case with Dicksmith(as annoying as it is), I'd prefer them to send the items separately instead of waiting one item for weeks.

  • Strange with your experiences. I get stuff from Banggood in under two weeks, yet with GearBest, here I am chasing two separate orders 3 months after ordering and two months after posting before they will even entertain a missed delivery request!

My best delivery was under 18 hours from USA (via Amazon) and 2 days from UK.

    amazon is pretty good
two orders made, both arrive within 2 weeks, pretty good, with tracking

    • That's one of my missing items. I wonder how many people have received the 8% cash rewards owing as well! They might as well have offered 80%, they have no intention of delivering the goods or paying.

      • Lol post in the topic. Hope ya got a refund from PayPal!

  • I have to admit that I have had the best luck with Amazon, always reasonably quick unless it is out of stock. In terms of the couriers it is UPS that has been the best with me over the years, up until recently they were the ones I selected when I purchase from BH and still are the shipping option for KEH. Since the cheaper DHL service became available for BH I have been opting for that (based on price) but the tracking is dismal.

As for the worse it has to be the china post specials (DX/eBay etc) half the time I forget about the package until it turns up.

  • For a lot of China sites that offer free shipping with tracking you'll find that the tracking updates stop once it's left the sorting facility. The last tracking update is usually Departed Sorting Facility, Dispatched to overseas or The item is on transport to country of destination. Once it reaches this point it's the carrier's job (usually Auspost) to provide or update tracking. Unfortunately this never happens with the free shipping. While express post (EMS) and couriers (DHL/TNT/TOLL) will continue to provide tracking once it has departed for Australia.

The free shipping always takes the longest as it takes ~1 week for it to be processed through the sorting facility in China or Hong Kong.

Banggood has always been a hit or miss for me. Stuff from their HK warehouse usually arrives in ~3 weeks while stuff from their China warehouse takes a little bit longer. China also has national holidays a fair bit where everyone including the shipping companies stop work for a day or so.
