  • This is a good device, especially for those that travel often.

I keep one in my travel bag and use it to extend a poor wifi signal throughout my room, or even better, share a wired Ethernet connection that is often faster than the free wifi.

Having said that, the wifi quality is definitely improving and some newer hotels don't even have wired Ethernet, but it has definitely proved itself useful.

  • The Edimaxx ones are cheaper and USB powered, but this is probably a good device too.

    • These ones are either Mains or USB powered, tho they want a 0.7 input. Still, well within the ratings for USB3. If on mains power, then the Full size USB port can be used for ReadyStorage or Printer connection, or as a charging port.

  • Can this be used as a wireless bridge/powerline adaptor for FetchTV? As my set top box is in one room, and my modem/router is in another and fetch requires a wired connection, and long wires is a no go. If so, how do I go about setting it up.

    • Check ozbargain for the Belkin screen links, they'll do what you want and are cheaper when on special but might be a bit larger. Unless you require it to be USB powered.

  • Doesn't look like it supports OpenWRT or DD-WRT :(
If it did, it would make for a very nice little purchase

    • One of the tp link portable they can be had of fleabay for $30 and the support openwrt or dd-wrt perfect for openvpn or chromecast region by passing, perfect for netflix hulu or catching up with 9,10, 7 or abc catchup stream when overseas.

      • Yeah I know the one you're talking about.
That TP-Link has pretty limited RAM and CPU though. It's good for basic things, but once you start doing some more CPU intensive things it starts to chug a bit. This Netgear has more RAM and a slightly faster processor. Still, a good deal overall I think!

    • The raspberry Pi B @ $43 apparently has a WRT option - tho you'll need a USB->Ethernet converter and be limited to USB2 speeds. The blogger set it up as a firewall, but others have set up full configurable routers.

There was 2 of these in Big W DropZone clearance bin and i bought them for $5. sold on eBay the next day for $55 each. They must be popular coz they sold pretty fast

    • That's some profit margin

    • Well done. Decent effort, 1100% markup, nicely done there sir.

  • I bought one a few months ago ($59) so this deal looks good. I use it a lot working interstate. The device itself sometimes works well, sometimes has dropouts for no apparent reason - google it to see other comments on this.
