HealthStart ION-70 Air Purifier $249 (+$20 Shipping) @ To Health

50

I suffer from pollen allergies and after much Googling and forum conversations a few years ago I bought one of these for $450, just now wanted a second and found them on special at $249 + $20 shipping.

At just under $500 its the rolls-royce of home air purifiers and I was reasonably happy, fewer bouts of hayfever and the lower dust level is great for the electronics.

its always this price…. i bought one back in december 2014 for $269 shipped….

    • Damn, didn't know. I paid $450 about three years ago.

    • Hey guys looking at reducing the endless dust in my house. Is this unit good for that purpose. Thanks!

      • There are other resellers of this OEM filter and for an everyday price of $250.

Cleaning everyday with a decent vacuum helps remove air borne particles as carpet acts like an air filter by collecting particles, stopping them from recirculating.

  • How does this thing work, if it does ?

    • +1

It draws air in the front and blows it out the back, after pushing it through a few filters. These things genuinely DO work! I only have a HEPA one (that's all I wanted) with no fancy gadgets and I love it! This isn't hocus pocus.

      • The ionisation part technically might be hocus pocus, but if that can be enabled/disabled and the filters are good, these are meant to be great!

CH, can the ionisation feature be turned off?

        • +1

Yeah, the ionisation can be turned off.

I don't believe the 'feelgood' mumbo-jumbo about negative ions either.

        • I don't know what claims they're making regarding ionisation but I can say that generating negative ions collects certain particles (which can then be removed). It also has an effect on some types of odour however I'm no sure if this is due to the particle collection.

      • Ok so it recycles the Air in the sense that it takes in the air in the room and the exhaust Air goes into the same room? I thought it was like s windows AC and cleaned the Air before it entered the room / house.

        • Ironically, you can get HEPA filters for most air conditioners

  • While we are on the topic of air purifiers, anyone have other models they recommend?

    • The only other I know of in the same league are a Daikin one at ~$450.

      • what about the coways?

    • IQ Air, but it's not very OZB worthy.

  • Do you need to replace any filters/parts? If so how often and how much?

  • No deal for me. This, like many other ionizers produce ozone

Would rather get one that generates cluster ions.

    • As CH stated above you can turn that feature off.

      • @lukian $269 still not a deal for an air filter only purifier.

        • Link me a cheaper one with washable filters.

    • Never heard about clustered ions. They are safe?

I use the IQ Air health pro 250. They're probably one of the more expensive purifiers for the domestic market. How would I rate it? hard to say - what I do notice though is that it removes all odours very quickly. From food smells to foul smells. We have two cats indoors, we do not allow them in our bedroom. However they're free to roam everywhere else. We only had 1 cat for however with the introduction of a second kitten more recently our allergies started to appear again.

Since the IQ air I can say I rarely have 'asthmatic symptoms' I could say it has improved my breathing and overall quality of life however knowing my own body it could also mean I've just built a resistance to the cat allergens. I've always slept well so I can't say its improved my sleeping however my partner loves it and switches it on all the time. She is more sensitive to smell and allergies than I am, shit even If I burp from meters away she can smell it! I've had the IQ air for roughly 3 months now, has it saved the cats? Probably…

    • Did you get it before the price hike?

      • Yeah roughly around $1750. Price hike due to weakening AUD. It was apparently around the $1500 mark

    • I don't even think an air purifier would prevent my sneezing and eyes from watering/itching around cats. I'm pretty allergic.

  • is this better than the Sharp Air Purifier FUY30JW? Sharp is cheaper at around $230 delivered.

  • Is there anything in the market cheaper than this? I want to remove all the dust out of my bedroom. $250 seems high.

Are you serious? Even $2500 can't give you a dust free room.

For home grade air purifiers, Harvey Norman has quite a few under $200. You need to consider the filters ongoing costs though.

      • This is true there no way can you keep dust out, even with our purifier. We vacuum a minimum 3 times a week and we still have dust.

  • It appears ToHealth / HealthStart is Insolvent, which explains why we got such a good deal.
