TPG Switching from Optus to Vodafone?

I just was reading on whirlpool that tpg will be now switching from optus to vodafone.
Anybody know when this will be? Because I'm not at all keen to go with vodafone.

If this is happening any comparable plans?

I'm currently on the $12.99 plan.

My wife is on the $19.99 plan

  • VF perfectly alright in majority of cases. Still using it since data add-ons abruptly terminated (grandfathered) followed by data-w/e, stupidly terminated (no grandfather). Foolhardy sure, but then not worth buying in to hysteria, either.

Wideband audio/Speed(UL) perf.- second to none in terms of an, overlooked 'fone.
Has come across anti competitive of late and can take a backseat to telstra, in view of incoming next dual-ph; no trust in 0ptus' ¾G QoS /policies that is for certain.

    • Uses different bands, though. Could completely screw over someone with an Optus-optimised phone. And that's not even considering network-locked phones…

      • Yes locked hardware concern, insoluble if not quadband or b3 1800.
Like wise, 12.99 probably is not viable.

  • From the TPG control panel:

Please remain patient as we will be sending you a special invitation and bonus offer to move over to our new plans on the Vodafone network.

For those customers who don't wish to wait for our special invitation and bonus offer, a change of plan facility will be made available in the next 2 weeks - please check back later.

This could turn out OK or for the worse. We had a great run on that $12.99 plan!

    • Yes we did have a good run, but I think it's a bit cheeky to move to an inferior network with no choice.

      • Oh well, what can ya do.

Thanks for the heads up though.

      • If you look at the stats… Vodafone is not the inferior network anymore,
Your coverage and speed experience will be the same if not better on Vodafone.

Vodafone does not APN throttle.. which Optus does (in order to make Optus a better choice if you want speed etc)

So you will get the true Vodafone experience on TPG vs the "its not optus but its optus" experience you get now on TPG

Agreed, been with Vodafone since the start of the year and have less issues with data speeds compared to Vodafone.

Also in the country, Vodafone uses the Optus network, so no problem there.

    • Could you post the special offers you get on a reply here? Just curious that they offer :).

I think now you can port your number to Optus or Virgin and they are offering some bonus as well. Contact the retail store.

    • Thanks will look into it

  • TPG wanted to charge me for porting a number over to Vodafone. what a rort!

Optus and Vodafone have comparable coverage in capital cities and in fact in may cases share towers.
It is also a fact that Vodafone 4G is faster than optus (4G+ is faster yes.. but TPG do not get access to that)

Also, TPG is not making anyone switch, you can remain on optus if you wish however they are offering a free trial to anyone who switches to Voda and all NEW customers will be put onto Vodafone going forward.

    • Really?

Whirlpool seem a bit more doom and gloom about it but I haven't completely read all comments.

I'll wait and see at this stage.

      Thanks.

  • Im with tpg and live in a rural area. I don't think vodafone will be any better for us here. It's bit that great on the optus network as it is. Might see how the new covarage is and if it's no good might look elswhere. Maybe boost mobile.

    • Have a look at the Vodafone coverage maps. Vodafone uses Optus' towers in most regional locations.

    • Thanks mate…will see when it all goes through…If the coverage is the same then I'll stick with them.

      • You might find it's better depending where, I found it is for me (Perth), especially on the trains.

Also 3G/4G responds a lot quicker.

What phone do you currently have?

        • At the moment I have the LG G3 international stock. I only have it Since I had to send my note edge in for warranty work and the service plaza lost the phone. This was in May and I'm still chasing them for a refund.

  • My Wife was with TPG for years on the $12 plan. We got a new plan offer and put in the new SIM a few weeks ago. Last week we started receiving $10 fees for going over the limit. We had never has this before. Spent hours on the phone. They could see the texts were double or triple billing when they weren't over the character limit. They switched off something called premium sms and got us to try troubleshooting the phone. Meanwhile every 2 days another charge for $10. Then another charge for going over data because I switched the sim into a smart phone and it used all the data. No one at TPG could authorise refunds or get an answer about the double dipping on the SMS. Will be switching to someone else but will have to live with $20+ phone plan I guess.
