  • Damn, I just paid the $300 at DS. Which I thought was a great deal.

    Nice one OP.

    • If you bought it from the DSE ebay 30% off deal like myself then you would have paid $279.30, which is only $4.33 more. But then if you used cash rewards 2.5% as well it still works out cheaper to buy from DSE ebay store.

However Dick has totally sold out of the shifter for this unit, making the HN $47.97 shifter price a really good deal.

      • Unfortunately I jumped on the Click15 deal and paid an extra $20. Still, I am happy with the purchase. I am considering the shifter from Harvey Norman. Not sure if I will get it though. I have two G27's. I like the Shifter, but most games don't support it very well. They only game that had proper clutch control was TDU2. Shifter is good for fun, but for competitive gaming the paddles are better.

        • Absolutely agree about the shifter, I thought it worked OK with gran turismo on PS3, but clutch control definitely lacked you're right. I'm a real car enthusiast, looked everywhere to get my actual car in a manual so why wouldn't I get the shifter on the simulator? For <$50 I believe it's worth it - and my HN had same day click and collect. I signed up for the new need for speed game beta and played a bit yesterday, didn't get a chance to use the wheel or anything but they ask all beta players to complete a survey. One of the big things I'm going to mention is proper shifter compatibility….When you're driving a McLaren you need to use the paddles. But in a lot of these games you start off in slower cars like the Toyota 86 and hot hatches; when I'm driving these lower end vehicles I really want to be using the shifter.

        • @stevensx:

If I only had the G920, I would definitely get the shifter (for the reasons you mention) and it is a great price under $50. But for now, I can use my G27 (with shifter) for PC games. My main reason for purchasing the G920 was to play Forza on XBONE.

          Happy Racing :-)

        • @Zaddo: Haha ahhh of course, didn't click that you can use the 27 shifter with the newer model!

I've been playing Driveclub but am ordering Project Cars tonight, can't wait for a few more racing games to come out on nextgen, particularly GT 7 which is predicted for release next year.

          Have fun!

Just a warning for any PC users out there, you're gonna have a hard time getting this working properly for anything other than Project Cars basically. Definitely get a G27 instead.

I got the G29 from dicksmith in the Ebay sale, spent all night trying to get it to work with other racing games at all and then gave up and returned it the next day. Got a G27 and it worked with everything straight out of the box.

But yeah good price for PS4/Xbox One.

    • They're working to fix it, though no?

Pretty slack to have useless PC drivers for it on release, though.

      • I couldn't find any info about them working on fixing the PC drivers when I was googling around for dodgey fixes. Only stuff I found was stuff like this where the logitech support person would suggest a solution that worked with G27 drivers but the G29 drivers don't even have the required options.

        • Hrmph. Some pain on that site. Question is whether to wait for a G27 deal again or jump on this and hope they fix it. I do have a XBone as well, so at least I know it will work for that. Doesn't look good for Assetto Corsa at the moment (or Grand Prix Legends!) on PC.

        • @MissKitty: I ended up just getting the G27 from Computer Alliance for $289 because I'm local to it and I wanted a working wheel straight away after being let down by the G29. it was only $10 more than I got the G29 for at dicksmith and it came with a shifter.

I tried the G29 with Race 07 and Grid Autosport, and the drivers seem to do this thing where if it isn't in a game that recognises it, it will use the force feedback motors to kind of 'lock' the wheel to the center. So you could force it to turn but it would jump right back to the center. Not only this, but in those games I was trying to map the controls myself and it wouldn't even register me trying to force the wheel to turn.

So yeah I would probably hold off until they have fixed the drivers, as their only priority with these new wheels seems to be Xbox One and PS4. Or just hope some more stores come across some G27 stock to clear.

        • @MissKitty:

Sh!t! I've just bought one of these solely for Assetto Corsa!?!

          @D4NVT:

Not true, I was sent a G29 to review by Logitech and had no issues with F1 2015 and Assetto Corsa. Force feedback works well, buttons map pretty well, but I customised them.

Any questions, just let me know!

        • @Ashman247:

Thanks for info. It's working well with Assetto Corsa so far (same can't be said for my ability haha). I'm struggling to get it to play nicely with Grid: Autosport… It cycles through the menu's top to bottom unless you press the accelerator in half way and I can't figure out which button I need to reassign!

    • Works pretty well in Shift 2 Unleashed and Dirt 3 on the PC.

But, I am hanging out for a good deal on Project Cars (The DVD version is $44 + shipping from MightyApe, which is a reasonable price I think).

      • +1

I got the G29 'working' with Dirt Rally, after mapping everything myself. The reason I say 'working', is because it turns out the force feedback wasn't working properly (it was only a twitch every now and then). It was only after I got the G27 home and tried that that I found out what it should really feel like.

So how well did you get the G29 working for Shift 2 Unleashed and Dirt 3? Was there any force feedback?

        • +2

I have the G920 - yes, force feedback with both games, very pronounced when off track. I haven't spent too much time mapping buttons - but steering, throttle & brake all work well. I also tried manual shifting (I have the Driving Force Shifter as well) and that works great - all though I'm a bit of a newbie with manual gears. I have Dirt 3 working pretty good I think, buy I need to spend more time optimising the steering settings with Shift 2 - I need to move the wheel too far for gentle bends.

I also tried the demo of Euro Truck Simulator 2 - and that has good wheel support, but the game seems too slow for my liking, although it makes good use of the shifter. It's worth checking out for a free download on Steam.

          @AdrianW:

*Too pronounced when driving off track.

**G920 makes me want to become a better man driver.

      • Does the G29 work well with Dirt Rally on PC? Sorry just seen you've got the G920..

    • Sure, but the older wheels don't work on ps4. Annoyed my dfp and dfgt don't work on ps4…and never will.

    • Still have issues getting g35 headset working reliably…and had that a few years they still haven't fixed the drivers so don't rely too much on their support promises.

Keyboards and mice haven't had issues… gamepads and headsets definitely.

      • G35's have and always will be garbage.

Having said that you should at least be able to get them to run, maybe you have to fix something.

        • The routine I have to run through is plug it in then uninstall all HID devices including hidden devices… restart the machine and swop usb ports then set it as default playback device… it usually works after that… good test is run VLC if it crashes then it hasn't enabled properly… !!!!

When they work they are decent headphones but even after I went across to windows 10 still the same issue… so they cant still blame the windows drivers when they have had many years to fix their sh!t.

    • im confused, you're using a g29 on a pc? i thought it was for ps3/ps4 and g920 for xbox/pc

      • They are both compatible with PC (according to logitech at least, my experiences differ)

  • +5

Thanks for this. They also have the shifter for $47.97, which I wasn't able to get from Dick Smith.

  • if this included the gearbox i'd be all over it

    • unfortunately to get a "full" set, we need to pay more. but still i am selling my g27!

      • +1

i'd do it now, we build racing sims and have always paid a solid 50-70 for them based on condition, if these continue to fall it's gonna be hard to move a g27 on at a reasonable price.

        • 50-70 for what? the shifter? or the entire G27 ?

Also, always implies you have bought many - do they break?

        • @Son ofa Zombie: entire g27, and yes they break but repairable.

        • @acex1138: damn that is cheap. where? Never seen a g27 sell anywhere near that on eBay…

        • @Son ofa Zombie: ebay eats a lot of your money selling, you also get murdered on freight, if you are a seller you have to be lucky that someone nearby will do local pickup or stupid enough to for out 40-50 for post.

On gumtree in SA they normally fetch 50-100.

  • Bought thanks OP!

  • +1

Doesnt look like it has many upgrades over the G27. XboxOne compatability I guess…

  • Haha OP please include that the shifter is also $47.97 from HN. Seeing as DSE ebay is sold out of the shifters :D

    • +1

      ok done, thanks

      • And thank you! If it wasn't for this post I would have payed the full $80 on Monday. Saw it for $79 at Jb-HiFi yesterday, really glad I didn't buy it ;)

  • just a stupid question. Do I need a chair to mount these gears?

    • no - a table is fine however not as natural as a gaming rig/stand because on a table both the steering wheel and the shifter will be on the same level as opposed to the shifter being lower in height like a real car.

  • Ok, bought the G920 for the XBox One from HN today paid $299 in store, sale ends tomorrow. I can confirm the following, owning a G27, the pedels, the power supply, the shifter from the G27 works all with the G920. Really all that was needed was the G920 wheel, I kept the rest in the box. As previous comment here not much has changed from the G27 to the G920, feels the same.

Maybe someone here can recommend me a cheap driving seat that fits in well with the G920/G27

    • Front seat out of a Mitsubishi Lancer, Alfa Romeo 156 fitted with bolts (NOT welds) to two pieces of square steel tubing.

If you have any more skills than that or realise it's cheaper and better to build a semi/full racing sim setup than to buy any of the cheap junk out there / halfassed "professional" build stuff by dudebro's on gumtree/facebook swap groups.

You can easily get either of those two kinds of seats from a wrecker for 50 or under (or any other kind of bucket/racing style chair) and fabricate your own little sweet setup even if you are just putting it in front of a small mockup to hold your wheel and pedals.

    • One thing you may or may not appreciate is the change in the brake pedals spring. I have a G25 (shifter from that doesn't work) and the pedal changes are quite good. See what you think, may be worth getting them out of the box!

  • how long did it take people to get the $25 voucher sent? i've been waiting the last 10 minutes
