8.5kg Gas Bottle Swaps $14.89 @ Bunnings (VIC Only)

710

Just replaced an 8.5kg bottle at my local Bunnings. Asked if they'd match this offer and was told they're beating it. Enjoy :)

Can others comment if this is a national offer please? Link shows discounted price in VIC.

Nope, unfortunately not National as per my comment in the previous deal after calling my local Bunnings (Rocklea QLD) and being told a bottle swap was $22.98. Poo :( Good deal for you Southerners though!

    • What price do you see when you click the main link?

      • This: http://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/67715/33897/gas.jpg Interestingly, I also just tested a few VIC stores and they also seem to be $22.98!

mentone had $22.95 on their sign but at the register it was $14.89.

I checked online before going shopping and mentone and port melbourne showed $14.89, and printed it incase it was a mistake.

No need to ring and wait, $14.89 is their online price in my normal stores.

Hi TA is this are all Bunnings? even in NSW?

  • Which Bunnings location did you go to? The other deal you linked to mentions it might be VIC only, and I'm trying to determine whether Bunnings in NSW will do this price also. Cheers.

Swapped mine at Coburg (Vic). Called Frankston & Ringwood to confirm.

        Holycrap! Tightarse lives near me!

        • He's tightarse… I'm sure he'll travel for a bargain :D

Ooh, new thread "how far have you traveled for a bargain?"

I drove from 820km (ea. way) for a pure bred dog, once.

        • @Utopian:
          What breed was it?

        • +3

          @Utopian:
I have driven from Sydney to Melbourne for an entertainment unit.

Another drive was Sydney to Wagga Wagga for some excercise bikes.

And the most recent was 2 years ago was a drive to pick up a Roof box from Dubbo.

Nice to get away from the wife.

I usually just tell her I'm going down the road and will be back later!

On the Wagga Wagga trip she called 4 has later and didn't believe where I was so I sent her a picture of the sign showing I was 20kms to Wagga!

Needless to say, I had to sort my own dinner that night!

        • @lancedefrance: English Toy Terrier. There are a few breeders closer, but tier 2 in every way.

Is this for 8.5kg or 9kg bottle? Title says 9kg but Bunnings website says 8.5kg.

    • +2

8.5kgs of gas in a 9kg bottle. Apparently it's now the standard and may have always been assuming they were never really filled up to the brim 'back in the day' of refills.

    • You can't full it up due to gas expansion from temperature fluctuations, it's a safety thing.

      You're such a character.

I have no idea why Mr Johnson, but I just called the store (03 5449 4700). Got them to check the price for you, and confirmed at $14.89. Yet you felt compelled to neg without checking yourself :(

I tested a few postcodes and can confirm that this price is not national, price is either as posted above or $ 22.98. My local store is $ 14.89

    Pakenham VIC confirmed, thanks TA

  • This is very tempting, however I would like to ask for some advice, I dont live near a BBQ Galore and have a brand new bottle that I bought from costco for either $35 or $39.
Should I just take it to bunnings and swap it for a full (used) bottle or drive for 40 mins to get to a BBQ Galore to fill up my new one there?

    What do you guys recommend?

    • +1

It kills me to hand over a brand new cylinder but at the end of day, it's just a gas bottle.

    • it's just a gas bottle ……. I just sawp n go when it's cheaper then waiting for the kid at rays to fill.

  • I wonder if Masters would come to the party on this one?

  • Just got one in Oakleigh VIC, Great swap.

  • Rather do it through barbecues galore. Sick of supporting a monopoly.

    • +1

Bunnings is a great option if you have a cylinder older than 10 years as BBQs Galore won't fill those.

  • Great deal as my local refills are $17.50 and that's due to a "price war" between the 2 stations across the road from each other.

  • Bunnings Colac have them until sunday at $14.89

  • in qld we pay about $22 for 8.5kg.. and same $/kg for 45kg.

    seems like we're getting reamed.

  • Nope. Still $22.98 in Wodonga.

  • Thanks OP - swapped yesterday in Vic. great deal!!

  • Thank-you, I needed a new gas bottle. Went to masters bought the bottle for $28.90 and got the refill for $13.40 (Price Beat Bunnings)

    Total Cost = $42.30

  • still seemed to have plenty of gas today when i went for a swap and go @ Vermont VIC

  • Got the price beat at Masters on 2 refills.
They had to get the manager involved though, the girl at the returns desk suggesting that they wont price match as it is a different brand, " I can check with the manager if you like though" - "sure, it might save me a trip to the bunnings up the road"…

  • Just swapped over 3 at Port Melbourne and got the deal. I also managed to swap an old bottle with 1988 test date which actually looked that old but they didn't bat an eyelid!

  • Offer has expired as of last Sunday (18 October 2015).
