TPE Honda Powered 4 Stroke Grass Trimmer $179.10 with Woolworths 10% off Voucher @ Selected Masters

170

Was looking for a new grass trimmer and found this 50% off deal (https://www.masters.com.au/product/900031259/TPE-TPE-25CC-Gr…) at my local Brisbane Parkinson Masters store.

Also used the current woolies 10% off voucher to reduce the price to $179.10 from the 50% off price of $199. Original deal

This brush cutter model is also reduced 50% to $249, https://www.masters.com.au/product/900031260/TPE-TPE-Loop-Ha…

There were a few left at the Brisbane Parkinson store and from a quick online check, there's other Brisbane stores showing the same offer (Springfield Central & Tingalpa). INote: didn't check every store so there may be others as well.

Seems a reasonable price for Honda powered gear.

  • How's this brand, quality wise.

    • The only 'TPE' branded components would be the shaft, head & plastic guard. The rest (the engine) seems to be a genuine Honda and because my own Honda Brushcutter with this exact engine is now 15 years old I can very highly recommend these. The only thing I had to do to mine a couple of years ago is replace the carby but that's because the primer bulb eventually cracked during the idle Winter months, let water in and scummed up the fuel and for around $30-40 I really couldn't be bothered cleaning out the old one ;) Other than that it starts perfectly on the second pull every time. Mine cost $700+ back in the day so these prices represent amazing value.

Comes with a 4 year warranty as well.

      • Strange how it says 2 year domestic warranty on the box.

        • 4 years 'extended' warranty stated on the TPE website.

        • @Hobbes:

The product must be serviced by an authorised TPE service dealer as required.
In the case of a claim under the Extended Warranty, the purchaser must, on request by TPE, provide the service book reflecting that required servicing has been carried out.
          - See more at: http://www.tpeaustralia.com.au/support/warranty-registration…

No good for me i change my own oil.

        • @paulaus:

Hopefully you wouldn't need to claim extended warranty as hopefully it would last you 15+ years if you take care of it such as using the right formulated oil and doing a full oil change at least every few years. But it would probably be better doing a yearly oil change if you use the line trimmer often.

        • @paulaus:

If that was the case then any one who owns a car would have to book it in to an authorised service centre just to change the oil.

I think it's repair work that needs to be done at a service dealer under warranty it's not about not changing the oil. But you do need to use the right formulated oil though or you could void the warranty if they determine engine failure was caused by use of the wrong type of oil.

    • I have the TPE honda self propelled mower and it's great, never had an issue, much better than the usual honda powered cheapies you see on ebay.

  • +1

Far out!!! Been looking to buy one but couldn't find it cheaper than $400 second-hand…

    • Note that this is "Honda Powered" not a genuine Honda trimmer. So you really just paying for the motor. Still a good price though if it comes with a 4y warranty. Just hope nothing goes wrong with the trigger, shaft or head.

  • Copy of receipt or photo of 50% off signage?

    • Use postcode 4118 as your store and you'll see the pricing offer.

I own this whipper snipper - bought it at full price and it's great. Starts without a hitch, easy to replace the line, plenty of oomph.

  • Can anyone confirm whether this discounted price also applies to stores that show full-price online?

    • Check a few of your local postcode stores, As per my description, I found the same pricing showing in a couple more Brisbane stores after a brief check but didn't search all of them, so there's possibily others with same pricing etc.

      • yeah I saw your earlier post. But I'm interested in stores that show full price online and whether they would actually have discounted price in store. Will try and ring one later today to confirm.

        • Don't think so. I saw the same unit at the Richlands store advertised at full price. Didn't ask about pricing at that stage though, so you may get lucky.

  • Seems to be full price in Adelaide.

Recommend paying the extra for the straight shaft model. This is an unbelievably good price. I have a chonda copycat powered one and it even owes me $175. It's the big 36cc one though. The 26cc would have more than enough grunt.

    • Also my copycat one is awesome. It's basically just idles around and give it some light bursts of throttle. Never really need past 3/4 throttle. My mate has the tpe bent shaft and it is great too. The start is much easier to pull. That unit is a bit short I'm around 180cms

  • Checked most of the Melbourne stores online (haven't been to any of the stores) - This might save other people the bother:

Keysborough, Oakleigh, Hawthorn, Dandenong South, South Morang, Carrum Downs, Braybrook, Roxburgh Park, Burnside, Williams Landing showing up at full price ($399)
Boxhill, Knoxfield, Northland, on clearance for $319.

called masters its a promo only in selected qld stores

    • Maybe if the storm beat the cowboys you could've had the deal. I suspect it's that random. There is very limited stocks of the tpe stuff at my masters store in tinglpa. Wouldn't be surprised if the stock is display.

It's due to the lower taxes in QLD compared to VIC

info: Thank you for choosing Masters. A representative will be with you shortly. You are currently number 1 in queue.
info: You are now chatting with Asinate.
Me: What's the price of the TPE 25CC Grass Trimmer - TBC009 Black. Each store seems to have a different price.
Asinate: Thank you for your query today Me. Can I confirm your post code please?
Me: 3180 - its $319 and if I use 4118 its $199 there. Can you explain the price difference and if one store can match another?
Asinate: So our prices do vary from state to state. And some our stores are retro fit stores which mean some items are at clearance price.
Me: Its at clearance at both stores so why not the same price?
Me: Maybe, the taxes are lower in Queensland?
Me: Can one store match another stores price?
Asinate: Thank you for waiting. I'll be with you in just a moment.
Asinate: Sorry let me confirm for you.
Asinate: So I confirmed its due to the lower taxes in QLD compared to VIC
Me: That's not correct - everyone pays the same GST. What other taxes are there?
Me: BTW, are you based in Australia?
Me: If it is due to taxes, why is the RRP the same?
Asinate: I'm sorry for the delay. I'll be right with you.
Asinate: I'll be right with you.
Asinate: Thank you for waiting. I'll be with you in just a moment.
Asinate: I'm sorry for the delay. I'll be right with you.
Asinate: Sorry I do apologise it's not due to taxes. It's because those prices are exclusive only to those specific stores.
Asinate: We can't match the prices with any one of our Masters stores

    • lol that rep was talking crap. GST is the same 10% all over Australia. No difference in GST from state to state.

  • $250 in Sydney :(

Are you sure that's not the straight shaft model because that is $249 (according to the thread description) after the 50% off?. I say $249 for the straight shaft trimmer is a bargain. Even less if you apply the extra 10% off code.

  • +1

Both the bent and straight shaft models come with the Honda GX25 25cc 4 stroke motor. Same motor that's on our Bushranger B25 Brushcutter (bought a few months ago) that we have here got from Acacia Mower Centre in Brisbane. It's a pretty good motor does the job pretty well and seems to be very fuel efficient. Done about 4 yards and still on the same tank of fuel.

Note since it's a 4 stroke motor it has an oil tank. So you'll need to get 10W-30 4 stroke motor oil for this since it's the oil recommended by Honda to use on the Honda GX25 4 stroke motor. So some 10W-30 motor oil is an investment to add to the cost.

I would recommend the Penrite Small Engine 10W-30 4 stroke motor oil http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/products/Penri… or https://www.autobarn.com.au/penrite-engine-oil-oa00847-sefs1… or the Bynorm Small Engine 10W-30 4 stroke oil https://www.masters.com.au/product/900031132/bynorm-4-stroke… either of those is the right oil to use on this line trimmer.

Basically if you don't use the correct motor oil you can void the motor warranty so grab some of that Bynorm 10W-30 4 Stroke motor oil while you're at Masters.

    • worth changing every few years too, 10w30 mineral oil is 10 with additives to make it thicken with heat to 30 grade. When they breakdown out the oil is too thin 10 sae… this is why mowers need straight 30 sae oil. 15w40 motor oil close enough eh? wrong! As its air cooled and runs very hot 15w/40 sheds its additives and becomes 15 sae so too thin for your mower. So yeah change your oil in this every couple of years with 10w30 and change your mower oil every 3 years or so with straight 30. And be good to your mother.

      • Well you should do a yearly oil change.

    • Can Honda GX25 25cc 4 stroke motor use a 10W-30 car engine oil such as
      http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/products/Valvo… without suffering any damages?

      • +1

You wouldn't think that car oil would be formulated for small air cooled engines like the Honda GX25. I'd recommend the Penrite Small Engine 10W-30 4 stroke motor oil from Super Cheap Auto/Autobarn or the Bynorm Small Engine 10W-30 4 stroke oil from Masters. It's specially formulated for small air cooled 4 stroke engine power equipment like 4 stroke mowers and line trimmers/brushcutter. Remember you could void the motor warranty by using the wrong formulated oil and ending up causing engine failure. So get the right formulated oil instead of risking it is only $13.50 to $15 for a 1 litre bottle which should last some time.

      • Its probably not worth the risk.I'd do it on mine but mine is Chinese copycat. I think the issue is that these motors are air cooled thus the temp is pretty wild. Some of the additives might not like the temperatures and leave the mix pretty quickly. Another concern is if you use a synthetic like most car 10w30s are the bore and ring seal might not wear in properly so you'll have a dog of a motor. I'm surprised these don't ship with a little bottle for first time use.

        • Yes that's why you need the 10W-30 4 stroke small engine motor oil (semi synthetic) as it's specially formulated for small air cooled motors which is what the Honda GX25 is. Never go full synthetic oils with these line trimmers as that oil isn't made for air cooled motors. In other words car oil (which is formulated for liquid cooled motors) is the wrong type of oil to use on these Honda GX25 motors and it might end up damaging it over time.

    • Or go to your mower shop and buy genuine honda motor oil same oil as used in honda mowers. Only 80 mil goes into the GX25 motor.

      • +1

These Honda GX25 motors use (well recommended in the owners manual) 10W-30 4 stroke oil for small air cooled motors. It shouldn't matter whether it's genuine Honda motor oil or not as long as it's say 10W-30 small engine 4 stroke motor oil the stuff that's formulated for small 4 stroke air cooled engines. Both the Penrite 10W-30 and Bynorm 10W-30 small engine 4 stroke motor oils are fine. And since it only takes 80ml at a time in the oil tank you're better off just getting a 1 litre bottle.

At home here we are using this oil on our Honda GX25 powered Brushcutter is one i've been suggesting. About $15 at Autobarn or SCA http://www.penriteoil.com.au/Portal/product_images/web/SEFS1…

        • I have honda mowers so i buy 5 liters honda oil so easy for me. Gotta love masters i also picked up a tpe tn011 self propelled mower half price 1299-50%=$650 less 10% $584.10 and i used 5% off gift cards so $554 crazy price.

        • I also picked up the TPE008 Honda powered mower at the Springfield store for $$380.70 with the 10% voucher discount, so hopefully I've a few years of reliable gardening ahead of me now.

        • @Hobbes:
Yeah i saw them im used to self propelled now even though more maintenance.

        • @paulaus:

          Great buy.

The TPE TN011 isn't listed on the Masters web site which may indicate that it's been superseded by another mower and they've discontinued ordering more stock in so they would be keen to sell the remaining in store stock off. There's the Honda HRX217HYU self propelled for $1299 but it looks to me very similar and exactly the same motor on both.

  • where did you get Woolworths 10% off Voucher?

  • Got the smallest official Honda one, and it's been great. Would jump on this one without hesitation if I didn't already have one. Even then I'm considering if I should but the straight shaft brush cutter since I only have the bent shaft one.

On clearance in Canberra as well.

  • Thanks OP, got one this morning at the Parkinson store. There were about 1/2 dozen or so left of the line trimmers and only a couple of brush cutters.

  • +1

Thanks OP! Picked one up this afternoon from North Lakes. Looked like there were a few more on the shelf and they weren't marked down either, scanned through at $199 and got the 10% off too.
