Citibank Plus Vs. Qantas Travel Card

Hey,

I am heading overseas soon Japan and was wondering which of these would be better? I've heard good things about both. Are there any limitations or hidden fees to either?

Also, would anyone know the best way to access Internet there on an Iphone? I hear that you cannot buy a sim card there without a postal address.

Thanks

You can get data only sim cards and have them delivered to either the airport post office or hotel you are staying at. I used https://www.econnectjapan.com/pricing last time, worked well and picked up from airport post office which was handy because I needed it to then navigate the trains and streets to get to where I was staying.

Citibank plus is the best, you get the visa exchange rate and there are no currency conversion fee's, citibank also don't charge you a fee to withdraw at any atm worldwide.

Citibank Plus gets my vote for ATM use.
Bankwest Platinum for CC use, or 28 Degrees is good too if you don't qualify for the Bankwest Platinum.

tl;dr, Qantas charges approx 4% premium over the Citibank

It takes more than 2 business days to move funds onto the Qantas Card from an Australian account. Tried and tested by myself when overseas.

Citibank is better for your future travels as Qantas only accepts certain currencies. You will also need to transfer or convert currencies you don't use on the Qantas card and get exposed to more exchange rate risks.

  • Thanks guys! Citibank it is. I am assuming you just keep cash on there in Aud? And it does all exchanges automatically without a fee on top?
