Perth to Bali return for Xmas - Oldies

Hi all,

The in-laws (in their 70's and one is disabled (wheelchair)) want to go to Bali from around 19 - 29 December.

They don't want to fly Air Asia any more as they say it's too uncomfortable.

Is Jetstar or Virgin any better for leg-room, or can they only get any joy via a more expensive airline?

  • What does Garuda offer? Check it out on airlinequality.Com
Don't know if they fly from Perth.

    • Checked. Direct outbound on 20th Dec - Garuda from $657. Virgin $545. Jetstar and AirAsia from $346 to from 489. Qantas $1000+.

  • Jetstar will pricebeat AirAsias flights by 10%. No better quality, but don't tell them

  • Go with Virgin or Garuda. There is a horror story about someone in a wheel chair being screwed around by Jetstar almost every month.

Maybe Garuda is a bit better still but you pay for the service.

I don't know where you get Qantas is $1000 + from. They don't fly direct so you'd have to go via Singapore.

Garuda you can go Economy from $557 and Business (which might make it more comfortable for them from $1200

    • You are correct. Qantas is 1stop.

  • Done a bit more checking with my wife and apparently it's not mainly the seats on AA, it's because they got a bit scared on their last flight from Bali where the plane seemed to be struggling to get into the air.

Made it back to Perth so from my pov what's the problem? :)

They don't have a lot of money so I think it's crazy to a) go around Xmas and b) to not get the cheapest flights. But, not my money.

Thanks for the suggestions so far guys.

    • I know they "thought" the plane was struggling but all my flights have been with AA and no way were these plane "struggling" had huge power in my opinion, but you cant tell oldies that.

  • they are all much of a muchness, out of all of the carriers I prefer Air Asia. But I think it would be hard to go past Jetstar's price beat guarantee. For leg room, you need to book exit row seats, although I don't know if your olds would qualify as there might be some restrictions as who can sit there. The exit rows in the middle of the plane are best.

  • Thanks guys for all your replies. It's been very helpful.

I checked out the prices and AA and Jetstar were both around $800 return (2 adults). Both use the same Airbus A220 as well.

The fossils wanted me to book the flights via Garuda though (heard from one of their sons it is the bees/the bomb/whatever) so…. $1256 later, they're done, from 18 - 31 December. Would have been less than $1000 return if they'd chosen 15th - 31 December but hey, they also vote Liberal NO MATTER WHAT, and don't even know what the Liberal policies are. Basically they are very stuck in their ways in many cases so were ok to pay another $270 for the sake of 3 days (and the $270 would have easily paid for 3 extra days in Bali).

They will never ever be able to become members of OzBargain, that's for sure.
