- shipping that seems to range from around 8 to Melbourne area to 11 for Brisbane. Would have though they use standard packaging so pricing seems unusual.

You need a router, not just a modem, but if you have that then yes.
Also, you'll need to connect the modem router to the switch, so only 7 ports will be available for devices ;)
Most routers have a 4 port switch built in, which would mean 10 ports are available.

The question was specifically about using the switch to connect 8 devices, for all we know figarow could already have the other ports on their modem in use.
