I can't give too much away, but currently I'm part of a team who are in the process of developing a true-blue Australian flagship smartphone. If all goes to plan, this thing should ship hopefully around Mid-2016 (complete guess though). I'm curious though, what's missing from smartphones today, and what's your dream smartphone?

The real question for all these people, is "how much are you willing to pay?"

So something like this? Slightly NSFW.
Develop a smart phone that can carry on a conversation with my wife so I can watch TV uninterrupted.
Out of respect to the "homer" The car for average americans… I hope you will name this..the "Bazza" the phone for the average ozzie.
I have one brilliant 1+1. next to get Xiaomi *DSDS +removable storage+batt.
About the only thing I could want lower band4g +better than a v.good DAC.Like to see content properly unfortunately 5.2” a deal breaker.
Removable battery.
Simple case with a front-facing lip for face-drop protection.
Max 5.2" screen with slim bezels otherwise it'll be too big to use one handed.
1080p is more than enough.
Decent camera.
2GB RAM

The ability to crack pavement like this thing.

s6 edge with bigger battery.
Hey mate,
This sounds like a dream phone, for the right price I'd buy one for each member of my family :-)Having said that… some nitpicks from me that even the big boys don't get right:
- Good screen with great legibility in sunlight which doesn't have any tints to the screen ie whites need to look white, not pink or yellow
- Strong radios and antennae for good reception and GPS signal
- Apt-x audio support
- I for one would love a fingerprint scanner (I have to authenticate this way for my work)
- USB audio would be a dream or a really good headphone out
- Optical image stabilisation on camera
- Most importantly, as close to stock android as possible. If you have to add to it, please do it the way that Motorola does with their phones so that we don't need to wait for android updates for weeks and months.
- Please make it available off contract directly off a website
- The best battery life you can give us, as big as you can accommodate
- A screen colour calibration setting
- Wishful: A tempered glass screen protector with full coverage custom cut for the device, given that this is an Aussie phone and thus has limited exposure for accessory makers
- All that you have already confirmed.
If you do this I'll be a customer at any price point.
Australian flagship smartphone
My Lenovo K3 Note is a reasonable starting point for a cheap phone but with the following:
5" not 5.5"
NFC
More internal storage
Reliable touchscreen
No bloatRear camera has to be good.
- Low light
- 4k video
- OIS
- Shoot in RAW
(I believe the best-in-class camera sensor currently is the latest Sony one?)4GB LPDDR4 RAM
64GB UFS 2.0 memory at LEAST with expandable memory that supports the higher speed read/write
Seriously, apps/videos/pictures etc are getting better and better with bigger file sizes, you need to cater to that.
With videos, the new x265 encoding helps a lot in reducing video file size.USB Type-C connection with Quick Charge 3.0 support
Removable battery would be a plus, but then just a big battery would suffice e.g. 3000+ mAh
Ahhhhh the challenge of having a phone that runs a full day with good screen on time…GOOD display which has
- Good colour
- Good PPI5.7" phablet size please!
Please for the love of god don't put the speaker on the back. Preferably on the front but otherwise, the bottom if you can't fit it.
What's the phone body gonna be made of? Metals? Plastic? Glass?
What ROM will it run? Will it be Android 6.0?
Do you need testers?
Nokia 8210
With Added
- 4G Dual Sim fallback to 3G
- Mp3 player
- micro sd slot
- micro usb slot.No need for camera and other junk. I just want a small older style dual sim phone with 4G that plays Mp3's.
What's the 4G need for?
phone call reception. My house has Optus 3G blackspot. Alot of call disconnects and only can get 1 bar reception in 3G. Sometime no reception. If i want to use Optus for calls. Need to use 4G device. This was advice given to me by optus. Telstra 3G works perfect in my home. Full bars. Optus has problems
4G doesn't (currently) hold calls… It's data only, calls are carried over 3G or 2G networks.
So the advice from Optus is complete bunk!
My advice would be to dump Optus, not only cause their network is inappropriate for your needs, but also cause they've tried to upsell you a solution that wont work!
It'll inevitably be an also-ran unless it punches above its weight, in audiovisual, battery, new ¾G b28 fallback departments, AND updates.
If you want to go for something niche, standalone DAC and headphone amp + volume knob.
There are a small group of people who'd really really love that.

Features that if not present will instantly cause me to not buy a phone:
I want a sub-5" screen too.
