Found the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge in the Big W catalogue. It does not mention how much storage it has online but I assume it would be 32GB. Seems to be the cheapest around:

Should be able to get it priced matched at Officeworks and the additional 5% off making it $854

Officeworks $1,135 $899
Harvey Norman $998
The Good Guys $1,135 $1,149
JB HI FI $998

Get the Note 5. About the same amount of dosh from places like qd_au (Reputable HK Grey import to AU). Pretty sure there was a really good LOCAL deal from tightarse for the Note 5 recently.

    • Problem with the Note 5 is that they've gone the way of Apple with the no expandable memory or removable battery. I love my Note but I'll not upgrade to another until they redress this issue.

        same with the S6 though…

        • Exactly, why not get the Note 5, except the extra size is not good for many? Longer battery life than the S6, same price at the moment through Allphones - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/211100

Same limitations with non replaceable battery and no expandable memory, but that is fine for many people.

          Note 5 vs S6 Edge - http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=7431&idPhone2=…

S6 Edge, smaller (easier to hold?), but the curve is wrong for holding.
Note 5, Longer battery life, stylus (if you're into that type of thing) and better ergonomic curve to hold (but larger, so confusing)

      • The reason for no expandable storage in the S6 & Note 5 lines is because Samsung has opted to change the onboard storage to UFS 2.0 instead of eMMC 5.0. UFS 2.0 does not support expandable storage (yet) but is much faster than eMMC 5.0.

Here is a source. It notes that testing with SD storage was up to 10x slower than the new UFS 2.0.

Of course, it sure is convenient for Samsung that to get more storage now you must spend much more money for the 64 or 128gb variant, but I suppose they didn't want to hurt the performance of their flagship by having slower speeds. I'm sure it is costing them in sales, most people who don't get the S6 often cite no expandable storage as a reason :(

Removable battery not being present is also a bummer, considering it is only 2550mAh in the S6, but I have an S6 and have found no problems with performance, I consistently get 5-8 hours of screen on time.

        • Does your computer slow down significantly with HDD or external HDD?
Does SSD have no effect on your computer loading if you add HDD?

"In the same random read test, microSD memory inside the Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy S5 performed more than 10 times slower than UFS 2.0." Note how it is not saying adding mSD would've slowed the phone by 10 times. Also, speed difference between eMMC and UFS 2.0 was less than 10x, i.e. we already had that slower mSD support with our relatively fast eMMC 5.0.

I have a fairly large collection of music files, having no SD card made me look for 128GB variant.
Having mSD support wouldn't have influenced general usage, if you dislike it, don't use it.

Adding it as an optional thing would've been better and it was easily achievable. There are many dual sim models that use one of the sim tray as a msd card slot, while it wouldn't have been as good as having a dedicated mSD card slot, it's possible.

I frankly think mSD support will come back on next Galaxy phone, though this is more of my speculation more than anything.

        • It's been said many times, having MicroSD doesn't mean you have to use it. While the reason of UFS2.0 not able to support microSD is fair, the S6 is still worse than the HTC M9 and iPhone 6 multitasking wise, I guess they should fix their memory management first.

        • @clse945111: That's true, I've had to root and flash a custom rom/kernel to fix the multitasking issues the S6 has.

        • @clse945111: It's really stupid and weird. From what I've gathered, basically their LMK (Low Memory Kill) setting is set really weirdly. Apparently it starts to kill processes after the number of processes reaches 6, which is bloody too small (this I've heard was more of Samsung Lollipop problem, i.e. Note 4 does something similar apparently). CM I've heard flies with the hardware (the hardware is amazing, I was actually surprised that the power saving setting gives me 52000 ish AnTuTu score). So all Samsung needs to do is fix that bloody setting.

If it weren't for Samsung Pay, I would've rooted the device.

      • No Infrared port in Note 5?? so cannot be used as remote through apps?

They have the best prices. You're just being a bit racist and can't handle that we have access to global markets now.
        Always putting down overseas sellers.

        • Yep, that must be it…
