Find Me a Deal for a Graphics Card

Hi I have around $460 for my PC. I know a fair bit about Graphics Cards, however, not so much about finding deals. I have an i5 4440, 8GB ram, Z87 mobo and I play on 1080p monitor (plan to upgrade to 1440p). I'd really like to buy a R9 390 because it's more future proof than the GTX 970, however I'm open to good deals on either card and any other good cards that slightly match the performance of these two cards, thank you.
BTW i live in Western Sydney and if you can, i'd be much obliged if you factor in shipping costs.

Thank you again, I hope this post helps me and any others searching for a graphics card.

  • 390 is a good choice. It makes absolutely no sense buying the 970 at a similar price.

  • If shipping is imperative, and a $50 fleabay voucher is of any use, PCCG's ebay store have the Gigabyte 390 for $539 shipped.

    • Thats nice but PLE have the Powercolor for $480 shipped which is better than the $50 voucher for Ebay. My actual problem is that I only have $460, is there any stores or coupons that allows me to get the 390 or similar under that price. Thank You.

$350 GPU and an extra 8gb of ram might be beneficial

  • How on earth do you live with 8gb of ram? 16 minimum these days imo.

TLDR unless you're into VM and virtualisation, there's no need for 16GB of RAM.

That's not really what the article says though. It says that performance is virtually equivalent no matter how much (spare) memory you have - i.e., there's no point to RAM that won't be used. You can still need more than 8GB if your workload exceeds that capacity, and 16GB is just the logical step up from 8GB (12GB isn't common). Personally, 8GB cuts it close to being acceptable playing some modern games. If I leave Facebook open (with videos loaded on my news feed) or Tumblr while playing Battlefield 4, the game will crash. A quote from the original article:

Once you have 'enough' memory for all your applications to run, having more memory won't increase performance any further
