Uniden 4 Bluetooth Cordless Handsets (Including BONUS Waterproof) $148.50 @ Harvey Norman (In-Store Only)

60

Okay guys I have stumbled upon a genuinely good deal here.

This is the "Uniden XDECT 8155 + 2 Bluetooth Cordless Phone" set, which includes 3 Cordless handsets, 2 of them have their own charger and one of them uses the Base station. The Base station can also be used to send/receive calls on it's loudspeaker. It also includes a range extender.

These babies have practically every feature under the sun. It is the ULTIMATE cordless phone. It's got answering machine, intercom, baby monitor, etc. but most importantly BLUETOOTH.

What this means is that you can pair this up with up to 4 Smartphones, and then you can make and receive mobile phone calls through through your home handset! Even Syncs your address book and you can even configure privacy between users of the Handsets.

Promotion via. Uniden here for bonus Waterproof handset via redemption: https://www.uniden.com.au/AUSTRALIA/cs_current_promotions.as…

WARNING: "Customers who use any on-line purchase facility over the Internet will not be eligible to claim
the redemption offer."

Honestly this handset set is the bee's knees and the waterproof one just makes it even sweeter. I've used one for over a year. This is the lowest price I've ever seen for it.

My mini review:
* No more carrying your mobile phone with you everywhere when you're only around the house! Just leave your phone on charger near the base station and relax (note: only problem I've had is that there is no indication of text messages)
* Anyone in the house can use your mobile phone call allowance (eg: If you have an unlimited plan) without them even needing to touch your phone!
* All the convenience of the home phone.
* Finally Ditch the Landline (or scale back to the most basic plan)! By using your mobile call allowance you don't need to use the home phone to make calls any more, and less phone numbers to use (you can still call out using the Landline if you want to though)
* Take your waterproof handset with you into the bathroom in case an important call comes through without damaging your mobile phone with moisture.

OzBargain this is not one to be missed.

  • I find that when connected to bluetooth (mobile to cordless) on my uniden phone, if my laptop on wifi nearby is downloading a lot of data i.e streaming netflix, downloading a patch, large files etc, I struggle to hear the inbound caller (lots of heavy static). They hear me fine. Very annoying. Have tried it on 2 units with same results.

    • I have used this exact cordless handset, my Wi-Fi laptop (also with extensive usage upload & download on 2.4GHz 802.11g & 802.11n Wireless networks), and my phone at close proximity to each other and some meters away and never had a problem like this.

The only time I have had a "problem" like this is when I've taken the mobile phone too far away from the Uniden base station (It doesn't connect via. bluetooth to just any of the handsets, it must be to the base station), so maybe this was the problem?

Bluetooth isn't designed for distance. The Bluetooth connection has always been good for me. You would need to be in a really high 2.4GHz interference area to notice anything and even then I would expect that you would have issues with your Wi-Fi. Having the mobile phone immediately next to the base station should be enough to overcome it anyway.

I don't have a lot of 2.4GHz interference (like you would in high-density flats) so I could use the Bluetooth connection between base station and mobile phone about 10 meters before noticing anything on an active phone call, 20+ meters before actual cutout (and then the mobile phone itself takes over the call directly instead of dropping the call).

Also note that the interference wouldn't be the Cordless handset itself because that operates on 1.8GHz, not 2.4GHz or 5GHz at all. It would be something related to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth which both use 2.4GHz. It could even be the Bluetooth radio in your mobile phone even.

I have this exact phone and the only problem I have with it is the poor quality of the ear piece speaker which sounds tinny when people are talking. That is even with HD audio turned on. Not the same quality audio as my previous Uniden phone.

Mentioned in numerous reviews here to-

    http://www.productreview.com.au/p/uniden-xdect-81xx-series/m…

    • That's strange, I never had this issue. Always Crystal Clear for me! Maybe there is some kind of manufacturing issue or incompatibility somewhere. At least HN are pretty good with returns. Uniden will take it back for change of mind within 30 days too if you end up getting a Tinny unit.

  • I have the same series and cannot recommend this line of device, u have to be a rocket scientist just to start the calls. Very flake reliability with bljetooth, always takes a few seconds to answer Bluetooth calls.

    • You just dial the number and press the Blue button (for Bluetooth) or Green button (for Landline) it couldn't be simpler. I never had any delay it seems like I must be the only one with a flawless unit!

      • your smarter than the rest of us, that's why this unit isn't good for general user.

        • You're*

        • @koom: lol… *ur

        • Well actually I passed on my unit to an older couple (50s-60s) working in a small office, as I was going to buy another one for myself anyway to get the Waterproof handset (I didn't realise I would find such a good price!).

These people are smart, but not the most technologically savvy (they only know how to use what they've been shown), and they picked up using this phone no problems after only showing them what to do a couple of times. Even transferring calls between handsets. Not a single complaint about it and yes I have asked them how it has been.

Mate I just checked your post History and really it explains itself that you have an ulterior motive here. You work for a company (who is BANNED from OzBargain no less) whose main business sells Bluetooth Desk Phones that work exactly the same as this. The less people who buy Uniden Bluetooth phones the more who will buy your phones amirite.

        • @tonsta: yr?

I just wish there is a Bluetooth landline phone set can connect to a bluetooth earpiece like a mobile phone does. There are several landline bundle these days offering unlimited national and international* calls.

    • yes, there is. check gigaset

  • Catch of the Day way cheaper for the two handset model:

    https://www.catchoftheday.com.au/event/technothon-craze-all-…

$79 with free delivery if you sign up for the Catch Club trial.

  • I was thinking about COTD as well. But returns will be an issue if it fails

  • Also office works selling same model for 198
Price matching will set this close to 140.
Also 30 day trial period as mentioned by OP

    • good spot! I didn't realise that Officeworks had any!

  • Just tried to check with Uniden with this to confirm details of the promotion, and apparently 8155 by itself is the one eligible for the bonus Waterproof, not 8155+2 which is quite nonsense because +2 includes a 8155 as part of it. There is a 30 day refund on it though through Uniden if HN will not return so I might be using that for the extras I bought
