My Chromecast decided today it would perform an online update. It all seemed to go just fine, but at the end I ended up with black screen. After about 15 minutes of plugging and unplugging various things, I figured out what the problem is. The latest update from Google must have included an updated HDCP key revocation list, thus breaking compatibility with many HDMI splitters that strip HDCP.
I was using a cheap eBay 2 way splitter, which worked just fine until this update. Now the Chromecast will work fine plugged directly to the TV, but not via the splitter. All I get is a brief flash of text saying "Chromecast" when it's powered on and then the screen goes blank and TV reports no signal. The splitter works just fine with other sources, such as a Samsung Blu-ray player.
Anyone else affected by this?
Nope. But then again, i dno't have a Chromecast.
