Building Inspector Responsibility - please help

Morning Ozbargainers !! I need some advise please.
I am building my home for the first time and we were advised by friends to hire a private inspector to ensure things checked and actually have the house completed perfectly as per contract.
So I hired an inspector for 4 stages (PRE-SLAB, FRAME, PRE-PLASTER & PRE-FINAL INSPECTION ) and paid him $1950.00. I have his contact from a friend. he has quite good review on some website.
can someone advise what is his responsibility in terms of sending the report to us? does he needs to send the report immediately after each stages or does he responsible to send the report when everything is complete??
also I am so confused because the inspector and the builder supervisor does not talk to each other and only talk to me so I pass on message to them and vice versa. I am sure this is not the way this works isn't it??
my gut feeling told me that the private inspector was not responsible and never do what he promised . i.e he promised to email me the receipt and I only receive the receipt 2 weeks after he promised (after 4 times follow up ). , he promised he will call me to provide an update and I never receive his call and I have to call him and ask. when asked why he did not let me know , he said he did call and left voicemail - which I know he just lie.
Now, we are on stage 3 of 4 stages and I still haven't receive any report from him. I am concerned now as I have paid him $1950 and I don't think I get anything out of it. I don't want to complaint to him now without knowing my rights and his responsibility.

does anyone able to provide any advise on what I should do please? I am lost and I am unsure what is the right thing to do..

    What does your contract with the build inspector say?

    When I used one (only for final inspection) he made a verbal report immediately after inspection with a written report in 1 week. I'd think he would make a report after every inspection so that any issues can be addressed before it is too late.

    The building inspector works for you (not the building supervisor) so he will usually send all communication through you.

    • the build inspector does not send me any contract. he only send me receipt…. I don't know that should be a contract..
      he did not even give me a verbal report . I have to call him message him and follow up so many times then he said all is good..
