12 little yolks of cruelty in a carton.

      But free eggs.

        But free eggs.

        Fragment (consider revising).

  • +3

    I'll be boycotting this place.

Stopped using them a while ago. Don't want them for free either

One of the most horrific aspects of egg production for all production systems (including free range) is the mass slaughter of male chicks. As males are not able to lay eggs and have not been selectively bred for their size or meat quality, male chicks are generally considered unsuitable for meat production, and accordingly, are slaughtered following hatching.

The method of slaughter varies, but is usually done by either carbon dioxide gassing or grounding up the male chicks alive (macerated), which involves crushing or slicing the chicks between rollers. As many as 12 million male chicks are brutally killed this way each year. source

  • Haven't been to Tasman Meats in so long! used to buy spinach and cheese pastries from there.

    Cage eggs are cruel.

    Are these e-eggs?

    • EggcellentšŸ˜

Out of all the eggs puns you could have chosen, you plucked out the most cliche one. You should be ashamed of yolkself.

When you think about it, eating eggs is like eating someone's unborn baby.

If that's something you don't think about or it never occurred to you, then each and every egg you eat from here on, you will now.

Aren't the eggs that are sold in market usually unfertilised ones?
I knew ā€ŽKimberly-Clark was up to something evil with their Kleenex.

    • +1

Actually, more like menstruation. Get that outta your head.

      • +2

…Ew, I deliberately stopped myself from making my comment to refer to that.

    • I thought about it (briefly), and came to the sensible conclusion it is not even remotely close to eating an unborn baby.

      But congratulations on the hyperbole.

    • Science fail. Like others said it's hen period. While sometimes you can get fertilized eggs in some places, you'll need a cock to be around for that.

      • Science fail. Hens don't menstruate, hence don't have periods.

    Cage eggs are horribly unethical.

    • Yet no comment on the hunk of dismembered flesh for sale here or the myriad of other "food" choices promulgated on Ozbargain. Intriguing!

  • +1

Given what has been said here and elsewhere, I will never buy cage eggs due to the (literally) industrial-scale cruelty associated with their production.

  • +1

These down votes aren't really valid. Irregardless of ethical orientation, it's a free dozen eggs. It's akin to a follower of the Hebrew Bible or of the Qur'an down voting a deal containing free pork products. Sorry it's morally questionable to you, but please point out a better price than free for those who don't share those morales.

    • +1

These things are not similar. At all.

      • Similar would be vegans down voting all animal products.

        • No, that would more be logical than the selective moral sensitivities displayed here.

    • Absolutely right - free is free and while I don't agree with caged hens, who am I to rob someone of the opportunity for free food?
