To buy the iPhone 6s Plus or not to...

So I've been using my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 for the last year and a half. I've run into a few issues here and there (listed below) but I don't know if they're enough to justify buying the IPhone 6s plus (that rose gold, 3d touch and updated camera!!) which is way over 1k.

Issues with Note 3:
- battery life runs out by the end of the day with light usage - can probably get 4-5 hours of full use before it dies
- camera takes really blurry pictures if I move it slightly while taking the photo or even tapping on the phone (also light flares)
- lag
- randomly crashes and resets itself (happens rarely)
- stuck on 4.4 kitkat and will probably never get an updated OS

In terms of android vs iOS I'm okay with either.

What factors do you guys take into account when upgrading to a new phone?

Comments

    1. Battery can be replaced.

    2. Depends if it's an actual problem and not just how the camera is.

    3. Have you tried factory resetting the phone which is a clean slate nothing to slow the phone down?

    4. I understand this very much BUT as someone who has used phones and tablets with both 4.4 and lollipop 4.4 is by far more smoother and better experience.

I say the above things as someone who has a Samsung galaxy note 3 i love my phone and do not see any reason other then if i find a good condition cheap used note 4 then i wont be upgrading as my note 3 is working perfectly fine.

"that rose gold, 3d touch and updated camera!!"

color fair enough (not for me though)

3D touch id like to give it a shot i can possibly see how it maybe not be good but idk till i test it out first hand.

idk how good the 6s camera is I know that the Galaxy s6 camera is very good probably the best mobile phone camera unless the 6s has beat it idk.

I certainly don't see those three things as reasons to ditch the android operating system for someone closed off as IOS is (i know you said you don't care about which mobile OS) but if that's the case why switch to Iphone instead of say Galaxy s6 which despite Samsung removing some features from the s5 is an awesome phone.

To answer your question i prefer an good all round phone with a large screen 5.5-5.7" without lag as i hate that more then anything that's why i have my note instead of a galaxy s5 that i could of had instead.

    • In terms of battery, I tried finding an authentic Samsung battery online but it seems to be discontinued.. I'm too scared of buying a fake battery off Ebay to have it explode. I've decided to wait around for a good 5.5-5.7" stock android phone with a good camera minus all the samsung bloatware.

i can imagine your urge to buy a new phone, but unfortunately this year is not a good year to upgrade, IMHO, due to 1. poor AUD performance, 2. most flagships uses snapdragon 810 which bugged by overheating and poorer battery life than last gen, 3. I am still not satisfied by what new iPhone can offer compared to what I already have. I have been using a Oneplus One for past 1 year, have been performing well, long battery life (end a 10+ house shift with 70% left), and decent display. The let down of my Oneplus is size (prefer 5"), camera, cosmetic (i went commando and already scratched it badly). I have been updating fairly frequently for past decade- usually less than a year, but felt less compelling this year for reasons above.

I did expect note series to age pretty well, as my dad still keeping his note 2 and still going strong. If I were you I would 1. get a replacement battery, 2. restore factory setting, 3. wait out until early next year for new offerings in android scene. Or at least thats what I planned to do. Hopefully next year AUD recovered and the new 14nm FinFET on processors can provide more compelling reasons to upgrade.

    • Gonna sit and wait around for a nice stock android flagship that comes out :)

OP is gonna give himself reasons to buy one, it'll inevitable when it comes to the psychology of a consumer who wants something.

    • herself* and thanks to these guys I'm reconsidering buying into Apple :)

  • Last year I upgraded from an iPhone4 to an iPhone6+.

    The advantages:
    a) Great screen, vivid colours, lots of real estate,
    b) Apps just work, I don't spend a lot of time fiddling around trying to set things up (That is the reason I gave my brother the Android phone I got with my plan. I use iMessage with the other half a lot and Whassup was being stubborn; particularly as he had stayed with the iPhone)
    c) IOS upgrades are regular and really easy to apply. They come straight from Apple so I don't need to consider my provider.
    d) I went for the 128 Gbps and I still have half the capacity left.
    e) The sound with the earphones is great, the loudspeaker is a bit meh.
    f) I don't mind the closed environment because the Apple vets the apps for nasties. (Well that is what they say anyway).

    The disadvantages:
    a) The eye watering price they want since the dollar plummeted.
    b) The size means it works in cargo pants, but not in jeans.
    c) Get a decent set of headphones, rather than the standard ones.

    Hope this helps.
