Banned from Trading in Games at All JB Hi-Fis

Hey everyone, I've been banned from trading in games at all JBHIFI stores, the reason is i have frequently traded in mutiple copies of the same titles at once,( Around 3-4 each time) I have made 50%+ profit from doing so . Today, I went into my local JB to do the same thing with my Target bought games but that's when they told me i could no longer trade any games there. There was one lady that said I could or (could have) potentially gotten in big trouble for this action, each time I've done it I was not informed nor rejected a trade.

What do people think and have you traded many games at once there?

Also

What would I get in trouble for?

Btw : Profit could be made due to JBs inconsistent and high trade values and stores clearing games for cheap haha

Examples - NBA LIVE 14 XBOX ONE (TARGET SELLING) $5 - (JB TRADE VALUE) $15

I'd advise anyone who does what I do to not do this anymore or trade 1-2 a time or visit different JBs

I'm out.

so long as you are not trading in stolen property, you have done nothing wrong

but a store can ban anyone for anything at anytime…..

    • +2

I've kept all the receipts incase something was to occur.

    Firstly - "could HAVE"
Secondly, I don't understand what JB is whining about. If they didn't want to buy the games - no-one was making them So long as you didn't misrepresent anything about them you have nothing to worry about. Silly JB people.

    • +5

Is JB really whining? Or is it OP?

And Jb has done exactly what you stated, they don't want to buy the games from OP, so they have stopped.

      Nothing to see here really.

I got no problems with this.

"… frequently traded in multiple copies of the same titles at once,(around 3-4 each time) I have made 50% profit from doing so."
"Example - NBA LIVE 14 XBOX ONE (TARGET SELLING) $5 - (JB TRADE VALUE) $15"

That looks like 200% profit to me, not 50%.

Found the terms and conditions from JB Hi-Fi
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/features/games/disclaimers/

From what I can see it is rather vague why you have been blocked. If you have been blocked from trading it is not unreasonable to make an request to JB Hi-Fi to provide their reason/s for the ban.

On a privacy level it would be worth reading this page https://www.jbhifi.com.au/General/privacy-policy/ and making a complaint to [email protected] on how long your personal information will be stored on JB Hi-fi's trading blacklist.

Did someone inform you that you were banned from every JB Hifi? I would be under the impression they decided to stop service at that specific store. I am not aware of any blacklist (but I do not deal with games tradeins).

I feel as though you worked fairly under the trade-in rules, and a polite conversation would have been sufficient (1 copy of a title per trade-in).

    • Yes, all jbs, i also heard employees say there's a "new system" with trading in, crack down on this maybe?

i have frequently traded in mutiple copies of the same titles at once,( Around 3-4 each time)

Shouldn't have been allowed as their t&c state

Maximum of 1 copy of any particular title per transaction per person each day.
For 'Free when you Trade' promotions, no multiples of the same game will be permitted. Inclusions/Exclusions apply. View Full List of included games here.
We only trade in games towards other product in store – we do not trade in for cash. Further to this our NSW, ACT and WA stores do not trade in towards any form of store credit (Gift Vouchers or otherwise).

    • I was never told or declined a trade for more than 1 particular title per transaction by any employee at any of the stores i went to , so it's there fault, isn't it?

      • Yea it is, I'd just consider yourself lucky you could trades with multiple copies :D

I believe I should of gotten a warning

They can ban whoever they want from the store, for whatever reason they like (provided it doesn't breach the discrimination act)

  • Do you have a partner or close mate that can pick up from where you left off?

    • Haha, I think I'll find other ways

  • I've been told we can get banned from trading at EB Games for the same thing. Pretty weird but it makes sense they don't want people exploiting the system.
I wonder how they determine the ban though, like do they put your name on a blacklist?

    • They probably track it

    • I'm pretty sure all the info they put in is sent back to the head office. That's why whenever they ask for ID, the name that they typed in has probably been red flagged in the system

Fact is, no store can force me to buy anything. And no store can be forced to purchase something I have to sell them. No one should be constricted to part with their money.

Product wise is different, if a store advertises they will sell something, then it's a right to buy. But the opposite is not true, u have no rights to sell.

    • Good point

    • Product wise is different, if a store advertises they will sell something, then it's a right to buy.

That's not true. Google 'invitation to treat'

If you mean in terms of false advertising, they just need reasonable stock levels, and can't bait and switch.

      • What I mean is, if u go in store, the store clearly has stock, it is advertised or ticketed for whatever price, they can't deny you the sale, unless the price is clearly a mistake, or item is sold but not removed from display like furniture.

        • +2

          Yes they can.

        • they can. google invitation to treat

        • They can either honour the price, or deny sale.. Unless they have a policy like woolies/coles.. "if the items scanned is higher than the price tag" you get it for free..

  • +2

    broden?

    • lol was thinking the same thing :P

      • +2

Prolly not as bad, broden did it with things that people actually want, like PS3, no one wants a two year old nba game, also I remember he did it with crap petz games so he is doing us a service by getting rid of crappy inventory from stores!

        • i only bought crappy third party games because they fetched some good trade values at JB!

Some of them include - Petz beach, Petz countryside, Puppies 3D and Book of Spells.

        • @bargin193232222:
Yeah, that's fine. Broden supposedly purchased 20 ot so ps3 to profit on ebay

  • +6

I'm going to get flamed but you gamed the system and they finally caught on. Why get angry? Credit that you actually found this "method" but nothing lasts forever. You made some coin, had fun on the way, shared it with others now the fun is over, so just move on to something bigger and better.

    • +2

I'm honestly not mad at all, exactly what you said is correct!

  • +2

Well, I'd prefer to have cheap copies available for me to buy at a store, without someone clearing them out to sell them at JB for a higher price.
So… frankly it's beneficial to me that this has happened to you :P.

    • I only purchased worthless and ignored clearance games.

      Petz beach?
      Puppies 3D?

      Who plays these? Eww

      • +3

My imaginary 3 year old son.

  • I wouldn't let it stop me. You've done nothing wrong. If anything, your doing them a favor, as they're offering money for a dingy used copy and your providing a brand new one for the same price.

  • That is correct, it is an invitation to treat only. The store can and may choose to decline the invitation.

  • +1

Not sure why people are a) Blaming the OP or b) blaming JB.

If the store accept his trades then that's their prerogative and if they decide to decline dealing then that is too.

Pretty sure he couldn't get in any trouble at all for what he has done either.

    • Its one thing to decline his trade and its another to be put on a blacklist being banned (probably) for life.

  • +2

You should get a friend or family member to start doing it.

  • Hey OP, rather than make my own topic let me ask you, did you get cash for the trade ins or store credit? I just traded in stuff today and at the end of the trade I find out they just give an in store voucher to use for that day only, which kind of sucks. I put it towards a preorder so I wasn't too annoyed. Is every JB store like this?

    • Hey sarmen2, you're able to ask for the amount on a gift card, the gift card has a 1 year expiry date.

      • I see, thank you
