Sydney Train - "Stand Clear, Door Closing" Repeatedly Play

Something I notice on Sydney train.

From my station to my work place takes around 36 minutes and 8 stations.

When a train pulls up at a station. As soon as the door opens, on-train passengers haven't even begun getting off the train yet, the "Stand Clear, Door Closing" PA sounds. The PA is played repeatedly and passengers on the platform no doubt try to rush on as they thought the door is really closing.

IMO they do this to make people move faster but as I see it, this is really chaotic as people haven't got a chance to get off and platform passengers already try to get on. I counted at each station the PA is played at least 5 - 6 times.

Have you experienced anything like it or is it unique to the Airport Line ?!

  • Why don't you tell them what's happening and ask?

    Perhaps it's a bug? Perhaps it's a feature?

I don't know. I keep thinking contacting gov agencies is a waste of time and effort….

Sometimes. I am often pleasantly surprised at the good service I get from some gov teams.

        • Agreed, I've have great luck.

This drives me nuts. I makes people take no notice of the warning, as clearly the doors are not closing anytime soon, so it negates the warning and just makes it an irritation and a background noise. I'm on the Illawarra line so it's not just the airport line.

    • Reminds me of "School zone 00:00-11:11" flashing signs (I forget the actual times)

I ignore those signs now because they start 30 minutes earlier than the actual sign.

  • The guard presses the "close doors" button once to activate the announcement, and again to close the doors

    • so sounds like a glitch then! It's bloody annoying though !

If only someone smarter than i could invent some sort of device that could port music or other audio of your choice into your ears so you didnt have to listen to this kind of thing while on piblic transport…

You really live up to your username.

  • Saying "hurry up" would be rude, hence "stand clear doors closing"
