Good Place to Go for Business Suits

Hello everybody,

I am looking for some suggestions regarding shops to go to buy business suits/ties/shirts !

I currently have a two dress suits and a black skinny tie.

So which (probably in-store as I need them to fit for sure) shops are good for these things and also would it be a good idea to perhaps just buy the top half as dress suit pants are basically the same?

Thanks for your suggestions :)

Notes
- Everyday sorta wear, accounting firm
- not sure about budget but something average to below average? No need for designer brands/top quality just has to look nice

This. Not even kidding lol. Or like China.

Bali, Thailand, Vietnam - made to measure, great quality & cheap as chips + as said above you get a great holiday too. Just remember that they need at least 5 days from you being measured & choosing the suits through to an initial try of fit , any alterations needed, through to the finish - where both you & the tailor shop will be happy - believe me, they are not happy until you are - they take their trade very seriously.

    • could you be more specific?

    • How much are they in Vietnam roughly? About to head over soon =D

To answer your need, need to ask yourself:
    1. what occasion do you put on the suit? daily? occasional important meetings? - better to buy one suit that comes with two pants - it's always the pants that worn out first.
    2. budget? roughly your salary level - need to see clients? Appearance can be part of your reinvestment from your salary.
    3. how easy are you to find your clothes? Do you already know your size? If your measurement and length are standard, and you want to save some money, personally I buy online.
    4. Favourite was the men's shop before it got orbargained few times and now closed. Now www.vanheusen.com.au when on sale.
    5. Material and cutting design are different from designers to the $99 set.
    Good Luck.

    • 1) Everyday wear
      2) Average - below average, look is the most important for me at the moment not quality etc
      3) no clue on size…

        1. As not business formal, can get away with one or two top half. People do not notice the top half as much, as always on and off. Wear different colour shirt daily as people notice the changes,
Spring time - so have lighter colour - light grey, light navy. In contrast to winter, with dark grey or dark blue.
        2. Van Heusen or what the others suggest are pretty good. 4 shirts for $100 delivered. Slim or Euro fit. Do not buy no frills on shirts, it may be slightly cheap, but the material and design is different. Often get yellowish or worn out prematurely,
        3. May be worth while to get it measured in store like DJ or Myer, so you know the size and length. Up to you to keep the suits/shirts.

Check out tm lewin skinny suits for $299. There is always a 20%off coupon floating around too which makes it even better. The main features tm lewin is you custom the length of the trousers for free and the jacket sleeve length comes in different sizes.

Ive got 3. Navy, Black & Grey. I always get complements

Are skinny suits accepted just for going to work everyday sorta wear? At say an accounting firm

      • I'm an Accountant and skinny's are worn by big 4. They give a tailored look. You don't want a loose fitting suit, it looks daggy.

        • Perfect, I need it for the Big 4 C:

Hallensteins online or Van Huesen at Myer. I found VH very good wearing fabric and you can buy jacket and pants separately. Last time they had a sale I got a suit and shirt for around $220!

Shops wise try Peter Jacksons, quite like their suits , an they will alter to fit you as well.

The shops normally have a better variety then the pics above, and prices are better on sale - got a few for weddings and other occasions for about $200-300

But as mentioned above, the taylor made ones overseas in places like Bali, Thailand are probably the cheapest option if planning a holiday. But also good advice to buy a decent suit and not skimp out if using for business and dealing with clients.

Here's an article with some good options on shops to try. Good luck in the new job.

  • Subscribe to the Bell and Barnett mailing list. They send out some pretty good deals every few months. The most recent one was Super 100/120 wool and blended suits from $800 to $199, $600 coats to $100 and $100 cotton shirts for $30.
Though, remember that like with anything, the original price on the tag doesn't reflect quality.
I recommend you do some research so you know what to look out for and to help decide what you need. Eg fabric, cut, color.
If you ever go to SE Asia then take a punt and get a tailored suit made (doing the research for this especially pays off). I had one made in Thailand in 2009 for $250 and it feels and looks like new.

  • Lowes do pretty good suits - good price too!

  • Has anyone got any bali contacts for a well made suit?

    • Hi,
Try " ANIKA " Tailors in Kuta. Hubby had one made a couple of years ago - great style & quality - has seen him through many formal nights , weddings & ( unfortunately ) friends funerals. Anika will pick you up from your hotel ( we were in Nusa Dua - quite a distance ) + drop you back + come to your hotel to do the trial made before adjustments - his needed 3 - but they were more than happy to accommodate the changes with no problems. The end result is a beautiful stylish suit with great quality- could not match it here in Perth for the price paid. Google them - you won't be sorry.
