Navman MY650LMMT GPS $157.9 (RRP $193.43) Click and Collect @ Dick Smith

20

Been searching for a decent GPS which has Australian and NZ maps. Saw a cab driver using the old Navman My85XLT once which was "pretty good" and the lane guidance was "always correct" according to the cab driver.

Hopefully the new version is equally good.

An older version NAVMAN MY600LMT is also on sale today for $127.8 if someone want sth cheaper:

jv: Those specs are provided by DSE not by the manufacturer. I glanced through them then compared it with the specs from Navman's website and they're wrong. E.g. TTS: DSE's page says no but Navman's page says yes. Same for loading other maps, Navman's site says yes, http://www.navmanstores.com.au/MAPPING?Device=MY650LMMT

  • Wow! Read the reviews of the 600 model - ouch! Surprised they're not cheaper.

"Worst product" seems to be the central theme. A friend bought a Navman and sent it back several times. He gave up and got a TomTom. I remember slow performance and not booting were an issue. Slow means 1 refresh/recalc every 30 seconds or so.

    • Also very dim screen. I returned one in disgust and stuck with an ancient TomTom. Recently got a Garmin which is ok except no audible speed warning (which the old TomTom does). Also the voices available on the TomTom are better.

I used to go by productreview.com.au.. but you will find the items you love very much will have very very bad reviews. I am starting to think its basic human psychology at work.. we go all the way if its time to name and shame.. but dont do anything if we are happy with what we've got..

      • So if you can't find loads of bad reviews it could be fine. I would perhaps discount a few bad experiences as either one bad item or user error, but not loads. Maybe they have fixed the 600's faults in the 650.

        • Well.. after actually clicking the link.. I have to agree.. Total 9 reviews with 8 Terrible, 1 Good.. no chance!

Translation of Marketing Speak: "Lifetime Maps"
    http://www.navman.com.au/lifetime-free-maps/

"The life of the product (“Useful Life”) is defined as the period of time that your device is serviceable and/or supportable by Navman, which at maximum will be four years from date of the product being released to the market but it may be less, or until the software is superseded and can no longer be supported (whichever is shorter)."

Lifetime <= 4 years, if you are lucky.
