Buying a Laptop for Dad under $500

Hello Ozbargainers

Needing some help in finding a PC Laptop for my dad.
I use mac so I'm quite dated with my PC knowledge.

It just needs to be basic, he mainly uses it for accessing the stock market, streaming videos and reading the news. Doesn't even need to have much storage capacity.

It would need to be reliable and easy to use.

Please recommend some models if possible, or list some basic specs that I should be looking for.

Price range is under $500 if that's reasonable? Or if I can get something basic for cheaper that would be even better, thanks in advance!

    • Hi!

Thanks for the recommendation, think I'd prefer a brand new one.

Where it says 'No OS Media included', does that mean there's no Windows OS on it? I need to purchase the Windows OS separately and install?

Hoping I can buy something that's ready to use, because I wouldn't know what to do with it otherwise…

      • This means that Windows is included on there, but there's no DVD or flash drive of backup media. If you want to make it (and it's recommended), you need to use the inbuilt tools to create some on your own blank DVD/flash drive.

Buying a laptop without any OS is more or less impossible.

        • If I were to buy a new computer, do they normally come with recovery discs?

Flash drive as in a USB port?
