Help Me Find a Specific Small Micro SD USB Adapter at a Good Price

Back in 2010 I found a really tiny Micro SD usb adapter at this point it cost 3.72 USD and was titled and sold by Dealextreme Titled Kawau Smallest MicroSD TransFlash TF SD/SDHC USB 2.0 Card Reader Keychain
Item Number 25557. I liked it so much I ended up buying a few more at that price over the next two years.
Then there was a seller on ebay who sold them for $2.49 CAD in 2012 I ended up buying 4 they were great!
Titled SMALLEST MINI BLACK USB Adapter Micro SD TF T Flash Memory Card Reader Fr Mac PC
Item number 190729873906.

I wish I had bought more as they seem to have increased in price for some reason.
Cheapest I can find them on the internet is on ebay $5.69 AU item no 171851200786.

They all are the same design as this one http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PNY-Micro-SD-SDHC-TF-Card-Reader-… . It has the little yellow slider that allows you to the push the Micro sd card out and is so tiny that I can leave it in my laptop without worrying about it damaging the port when I put it in a bag and such.

I've tried looking at DX.com lowest I could find for a similar model 5.79 AUD
Couldn't find any cheaper on Aliexpress and ebay at $5.69 AUD.

Thanks for reading all this and any assistance you can bring!

Be careful make sure they can read or compatible with micro sdhc format, ie above 32gb capacity

    • Thanks will do. That is a such a simple thing that can be easily over looked if you aren't thinking about it!

  • Bought this

    http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/USB-Mini-TF-memory-card-reader-micr…

Works fine with my 128gb micro sd card

    • Form factor is more import for the card reader I'm looking for.
I'm setting up a backup solution for my mum's laptop that needs to plugged in at all times.
That means it has to be as flush as possible with the laptops casing itself so it can't jut out.
We've ordered two 32GB Micro Sd cards and now we just need to get two of these card readers. (or at least one).
The idea is to combine the two and BvckUp2 software to make automatic realtime backups on the micro sd card from her documents and whatever folders. Then ever month or so I'll set up a script to annoy her to swap the USB card readers and that way there will always be three backups. Ideally it'd be great if we could store one off site but that's not a possibility and we could look into online backups but I don't think she'd trust them.

      Thanks for the suggestion though!

  • How much are you hoping to buy it for? If you previously bought it for $3.72 USD in 2010 when the AUD was $0.91 (yearly average) that would have cost $4.04. If the dollar was $0.70 USD as it is now, that would have cost you $5.38, which is pretty close to $5.69 AU delivered.

I know it doesn't help you find it cheaper, but maybe you have got the best price already considering the exchange rates.

    • The best price I ever found was actually 2.50 CAD which was at time according to a Historical Exchange Rates site, AUD and CAD were near equal so it was pretty much $2.50 AUD. I don't know if they shut down production on this particular reader in favor of another thats perhaps easier to produce or perhaps they're just greedy and know people like this one?

That's good thinking though and I did wonder about that myself but it's twice as high at the moment which I'm guessing is just due to it being out of production.

  • Aliexpress

How about this? $1 shipped or too big.

    Aliexpress has a wide range.

Sounds like you are trying to make a poor-mans flush USB flash drive like the Sandisk Cruzer Fit. Why don't you just get a few of these drives instead of messing around with adaptors and microSD cards? I'm sure there are generic knockoffs around if you want to do it on the cheap. I wouldn't think it would be much different in cost. Also is there any reason you don't just use a microSD to SD adaptor and use it in the SD slot that just about any laptop has these days? It would be completely encased inside the laptop then with nothing jutting out.

    • T-thats brilliant! I'm pretty sure she has an SD card reader on her laptop so that would be significantly more flush than the usb reader as well as eliminates the worry of shoddy quality on the behalf of the usb reader as the SD converter I think is a straight pass through instead.
I already have a bunch of those adapters too so that works great!
Thanks so much for your suggestion!
