Thorfire TG-06 single AA/14500 flashlight. 300lm on max with a 14500, about 150 on an eneloop. I have a couple and they are a great step up from the $5 Cree lights that get posted here. The customer service from Thorfire actually exists as well, plus you are buying from Amazon which should afford some protection. Plenty of reviews on BLF, and some on Amazon as well. I did one on /r/flashlight as well

Make sure you select the seller that isn't fulfilled by Amazon to get the free shipping

EDIT: Make sure you pop the code 3Z6FPEQH into the section that says Gift and Promotional codes before you checkout

  • the name is kind of cheeky and slighty derp… thorfire, surefire

    • Yeah, the Chinese companies all tend to end in fire. It's a shame because ultrafire has created the perception that any light ending in fire is junk, but this light has blown me away

      • I feel like (genuine) ultrafire products are good. Charges etc?

        • A friend of mine bought an ultrafire 18650. Advertised at 2800mah, measured at about 400…

I admit that I didn't even realize there was genuine ultrafire stuff

        • @ebosh: I was just after a cheap nizm charger and the ultrafire one seems alright, does as well at nimhs as well as my dick smith smart charger.

  • "Make sure you select the seller that isn't fulfilled by Amazon to get the free shipping"

How do you do that? At the moment it said the product does not ship to Australia.

It's the second one on the list under this web page.

      • Beat me to it!

        • +3

Yes. What the OP didn't mention is that during the checkout procedure you can enter the coupon code supplied in the thread description (to be entered under the "Select a payment method" screen and in "Gift Cards & Promotional Codes Enter a gift card or promotional code") takes $6 off the order making it $18.98 delivered for me. You don't automatically get that price you must manually input the coupon code into the checkout.

        • @hollykryten: Thanks. I thought the voucher code was obvious enough but I will edit the post

          @ebosh:

Yes but perhaps not every knows how or where to input an Amazon promotional code. Thought i would help.

        • @hollykryten: Muchos Gracias

the multimode kinda kills it for me

    • As in you don't want multiple modes?

      • +2

yeah its not a big deal but i'm not a huge fan of that

        keep it simple

        • It doesn't have mode memory and always starts on high so it isn't too bad, but I see what you mean.

  • +1

Ugh, starts on high, no memory…

    How low is the low?

    • I couldn't tell you exactly, but I'm going to guess at about 20lm. I would prefer it to start on low, but for the price I don't mind.

      • Yeah the price is good for what looks like a nice light, I'm just spoilt by my Thrunite Archer 1A. Nothing else compares.

        • I actually bought this instead of the thrunite because I couldn't justify the price after spending more than $200 on lights this year so far. How do you like it? Have you run a Li-ion in it?

        • @ebosh: Nope, just aa's, but I love it. Firefly mode, twist to select mode, clicky on, and memory. If it didn't have strobe it would be perfect.

  • Can anyone recommend a good value 14500 battery?

    • +1

I have a couple of Keeppower 14500's. There are 2 different versions, but this one is the slightly higher capacity and made in Japan.

      • can these be charged in a normal charger or needs a special 1?

        i have an Energizer charger

        • Nope, they are Li-ion so need a special charger like this. The advantage is that the charger can also do your ni-mh cells, and probably better than your energizer charger

        • @ebosh:
would this 1 do, same price but does 4 batteries

        • +1

          @brocky2006: sure will!

        • @ebosh:

The Nitecore D2 may be a good charger for Li-ion batteries, but it isn't a good charger for NiMh. The usual NiMh battery around here is the Eneloop AA, and at 2000mAh, that charger (500mA per channel) will take more than 5 hours to charge. The dV/dT effect becomes so small it is un-measurable if your charger takes four or more hours to charge.

Because of the low charging current, it will only act as a smart charger for low-capacity NiMh batteries - perhaps AAA Eneloops (800mAh).

The Nitecore I4, at 750mA per channel, is just barely enough to be a smart-charger for AA Eneloops, and is a better choice. 1000mA per channel is preferred for Eneloop AA batteries.

        • @Russ: yep, but for a layman it will do fine if you are just leaving it overnight to charge. I've got a Lacrosse charger for my eneloops as well as an Xtar vc4 for my Li-ions

        • @ebosh:

Yes it'll be fine, I have a Nitecore i4 for my ecig for 18650 & 18350 3400mAh Panasonic batts, I also have a plethora of 2000-2400mAh AA and lower AAA from Jaycar (Powertech). It has been used constantly for ecigs, toys, torches, remotes and keyboards. I'll never buy another energiser/duracel battery/charger again.

It and the batteries were purchased Feb 2013 and still give the expected run time. None of the batteries get hot like they use to with other chargers and batteries so it must be kinder. Channels 1&3 and 2&4 are paired so using channel 1&2 or 3&4 will get full charge rate, use 1&3 or 2&4 or all four channels will reduce the charge rate thus requiring longer to charge. It's not once bothered me.

I can't believe 2.5yrs of use and I still have the same batteries, before that they'd last no longer than 1yr.

Soshine is another good charger, other vapers tell me and tests done on it.

Take heed to Russ advice on eneloops, I've got no eneloops so can't say anything on those.

      • yes "made in japan" because china always imports from "japan"

        • I haven't looked in a while, but the 800mah version is made in Japan and assembled in China while the 840mah version is made and assembled in Japan. I'm pretty sure they are both just an unprotected Sanyo cell underneath though.

  • The fact that it is flickering from pwm kills the deal.

    Another torch… Thanks OzBargain!

  • Can't seem to order even when I select the 2nd seller in the list to ensure that the it isn't fulfilled by Amazon.
Getting the following message : Sorry, this item can't be shipped to your selected address.

    • Seems no longer ships international from any seller.
