  • Maybe I'm missing something, but aren't there terrible value? For example, you could get the $30 Optus Sim only plan with unlimited calls/text and 1gig data month to month for only 3 bucks more. If you've got a home broadband plan, works out to be $20 per month no lock ins

    • Hey Steff,

We don't have a $30 plan but our $35 plan gives you 3x the data at 3GB, Unlimited text and a huge $2000 of calls.

We also do not use the same network as Optus.

      • +1

For some people Telstra works better and for others optus.

        • Yeah good point

        • @steff:

          For some?

Telstra network wipes the floor against Optus (which wipes the floor against Vodafail)

        • @Roary: not necessarily. you should note that Telechoice uses the Telstra wholesale network which is not the same as the Telstra retail network

        • @chunky: To the best of my knowledge (and was as advised), it's a 3G data connection and remote mining areas are excluded on this Telstra connection.
The wipe the floor comment is totally true.
Some places I visited that got no Optus connection,
          - Wollongong (many spots)
          - Taree (many spots)
          - Newcastle (constantly intermittent)
          - Sydney CBD (hit and miss)
          - Walker Flat (most spots)

When I changed to Telechoice, I had no problems in any of these areas.

Eg. About a month ago, 5 friends complained they had no connection at Walker Flat. They walked around trying to get a signal. I had 4-5 bars (of 5). They were all on Optus. I was popular,

I see this trend of connection problem time and time again.

      • I was comparing it to the $27 plan above. Optus work better for me I guess since I'm in a metro area and the coverage is fine. I can see how people could prefer Telstra though

        • Hey Steff,

Fair enough! We're always happy to take this feedback on board :)

    • +1

Maybe the optus network has gotten better, but it was always terrible back when I was on it - massively oversubscribed. Telstra is the only carrier with decent reception at my house (17km from the BNE CBD).

That said, I preferred the old plans to these new ones.

  • +6

Nope. This are not the best deals. Bring back $25 with $650 worth of call, 1.5 gig data Or $20 per month with $500 worth of credit and 1 gig data.

    Also this is telstra 3G.

    • Hey Cniminc,

It's good to see you remember some of our older plans ;)

These new plans are on a different, smarter platform than those older ones that gives the following benefits:

      • Real time usage notifications
      • Ability to check usage from handset at any point in the month
      • 1GB data packs for just $10 (compared to the previous $0.15/MB, $153.60/GB rate)
      • MMS are now included in the plan allowance
      • International call rates have been dramatically reduced

Some of these new plans are actually cheaper than the comparable older ones. We believe our new plans are great value.

      • +4

If you want upvotes on ozbargain, you need to provide this community with a real deal. If we are signing up for 12 months then you need to be doing the $35 option for closer to $25.. That will drive some serious traffic and business.

        • +1

I'm in if they offer $35 option for $25 or something like 2 GB Data, $700 calls for $25.

        • Hey Bullion78 and Cniminc,

We try and remain as competitively priced as possible given the network we use. We are not a huge corporation and we don't spend your money on unnecessary celebrity endorsements, lavish offices or marketing campaigns - in turn we try and make our products and services as good as possible.

We are however always happy to take on board your feedback!

    • I was seriously thinking about joining Telechoice on their old plans even though it was on a 3G network. Now the prices are much more expensive on the same 3G network so no deal.

    • Agreed, i am on the prev $25 plan and would say that's a better plan for my needs, compared to what is being offered. Saying that though, is TC not able to offer the real time notifications to existing users? Because of the smarter platform..

      • Hey Trippyfoo,

Yes unfortunately these features aren't available on the older plans. Not to be over-dramatic but the technology used on this newer platform is significantly better and allows for greater customer control that just wasn't previously available. Not many providers are offering real time usage alerts (yet that is ;)!)

        • Thanks for the quick response. Hypothetically, if i had 10 months left on my plan and i were to change to the $35 plan, would it be for a full 12 months or the remainder of my current contract.

        • Hey Trippyfoo,

If you remain within the same contract pool it wont extend your contract length!

ie. if you are currently on a 24 month plan (set to finish in 10 months), you can change to a different 24 month plan without extending the contract.

          Hope that helps :)

    • I'm on $20 per month with $500 worth of credit and 1 gig data for 18 months, very happy. I wont pay $27 for the same though.
Didn't need the $25 with $650 worth of call, 1.5 gig data back then, but would like to consider that now. 1GB is a just not enough to have data on all the time.

  • •International call rates have been dramatically reduced

Can you please provide link to latest international call rates. On website pdf link is from Feb 2015 and they are not big reduction but compatible with other providers.

  • For a limited time only

For a ridiculously large limited time

    Fixed that for you. :)

    • Hey Lukian,

With the way this years moving, it'll be New years before you know it ;)

  • +2

It used to be the go to BYO carrier for my friends and families but not so much with the new caps.

    • International call rates have been dramatically reduced

    China $1.85 -> $1.85(Mobile) / $1.50(Landline). I am dramatically speechless.

    • Hey Maxhu,

Not all of them are dramatically reduced, but for a lot of countries there is a huge difference. For example:

      Canada from $1.95 -> $0.69
      UK from $1.95 -> landline $0.60, mobile $1.25
      Vietnam from $3.95 -> landline $1.85, mobile $2.15

This difference is amplified is amplified by the fact that we give you quite large call allowances for international calls.

  • ah 3G.. bye bye

  • i am confused here.. looking at your links for international call rates. What are the call rates for India?

  • tough crowd here in ozb

    • +1

      Sure is 996839!

We're always interested to hear what people have to say though.

  • Hi Telechoice,

    Why 4G is not available?

    • Coz Telstra doesn't resell their 4g network

    • Hey Mhc,

There is currently no 4G available on the wholesale network we operate on.

All providers who use the same network as us sell 3G: AldiMobile, Woolworths Connect, Lycamobile etc

  • +1

Not sure why there's so much hate on them, personally I just changed to the $35/mo plan (On 24 months, which doesn't really bother me as I wont be changing)

But I'm perfectly happy with them. Very frequently are my friends/family complaining about reception then I rub it in their faces that I have full bars.

And comparing to the Optus sims is pointless, Calls are going down and down by the day, why do you think providers are giving us more and more $$$ worth of calls? Cos everyone communicates via E-Mail/text these days. At that lower price range, I'd much rather more data than Calls. I make maybe $5 worth of calls a month, but send about 300 texts a month and use majority of the data per month.

Keep up the awesome job TeleChoice, I'll always be with ya ;)

    • Hey SuBw00Fer,

It's always great to hear from one of our happy customers ;) Thanks for the shout out!

  • Wow I guess I'm glad I held on to my $20 1gb plan. Dunno how much $ worth of calls I get but I never seem to go over.

    • Hey hamwhisperer,

It seems a couple of people has wished they would have signed up for it! There are seriously some major benefits to the newer platform that these newer LIVE plans are on though. Plus they come with more data than before, everyone needs more data :)

Check it out if you wanted more info: http://www.telechoice.com.au/live-plans

      • I've had odd signal issues across multiple phones in multiple locations around Melbourne, very very surprising. The primary reason I 'put up with' 3G rather than 4G was it's "Telstra 3G" and therefore gonna be amazing, always…… seemingly not.

Here's the specs on the phone I'm currently using:
        Technology

        2G bands GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
        3G bands HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
        HSDPA 850 / 900 / 2100 - N7105
        4G bands LTE band 3(1800), 7(2600), 8(900), 20(800) - N7105
Speed HSPA 42.2(LTE)/21.1(3G)/5.76 Mbps, LTE Cat3 100/50 Mbps
        GPRS Yes
        EDGE Yes

        • Hey Hamwhisperer,

Hmm that is probably not going to be something I would have an answer to off the top of my head - it could be a number of things.

I would suggest that you email your name, account number, phone model and a description of your issue (with times and locations) to [email protected]

There our support guys will be able to investigate this. We would be more than happy to look into it for you!

  • Not very competitive imo. More data and lower prices needed.

    • Hey Bellpop,

We think we are very competitive compared to other providers on comparable networks! We've also increase out maximum data on our plans from 3GB to 6GB and introduced data $10/GB data packs.

      • Maybe only having two plus votes is a better indication to you of how (un)competitive your plans are?

  • +1

Boost offers ALOT more for $20 on the Telstra 3G network.
300mb vs 1.5gb? No competition really

  • Why ONLY new customers have real time usage function?
    I can't believe it!
Maybe I should UPGRADE to Optus or Voda or Virgin.

    • Hey n4630386,

The real time usage function isn't just for new customers - it's for all customer on our LIVE plans. It is a platform feature for these newer plans and is not available on the older ones.

Your more than welcome to change to our LIVE plans! If you are still in contract and change to a plan within the same contract length pool we will not extend your contract. I'm not sure what plan you are on but for some customers moving to LIVE also ends up being cheaper.

  • Im after a plan with more Data and less calls for my teenager. He sends a few texts, never calls anyone, but uses lots of data.
$27 a month for 1Gb with a 12 month lock in isnt competitive compared to Boost 1.5Gb (+ an extra 500Mb on Sundays) for $20 with no lock in contract.

  • Hello Telechoice,

I am a little confused - what is the difference between signing onto a 12 month plan to a month by month? There seems to be no extra benefits?

    • Hey Luckymaster,

There is no difference - the 12 month plans are a special offer. They are priced and give you the same inclusions as the 24 month plans. Some people however still like to sign up for 24 months so we left that option in :)
