Yeah agree, I'd invest in a decent set of 5.1/7.1 headphones or just headphones in general.
Well, technically there is… though I wouldn't say it is good.
But having said that, based on the OP's budget, the "best" surround sound speakers would be the Z506 from logitech.

Can be had for less but this is just for reference.
Or if you are willing to stretch the budget and have a sound card, I would recommend these speakers. I have a set and it has really good sound stage and great SQ, couple it with a sound card for virtual surround and it should be good.
Have you compared the Swans to the logitech Z623?
I recently moved my z-5500s to my living room and a 2.1 set seems a bit more practical. I'm having trouble deciding which 2.1 set to get though.
TBH, I moved from a Z506 to a Swan setup… my Z506 broke lol.
Never owned the Z623 but from reviewso n Head fi, it seems the Swan set is really good compared to the others in this price range.
@ProjectZero: Yeah. I want something that can kind of switch between bassy for gaming/movies and clarity for music. And at a decent price. Unicorn speakers :)
@Domingo: The Swan is really good for music… not really bassy though imo. I've turned up the bass as far as I can without distorting the sound and it still doesn't give enough punch… still good enough for some of daft punk and stuff like that though.
@ProjectZero: Ended up getting the Z623's @ officeworks, pricematched Logitechshop's $119 delivered so got em for $113 on the spot. Seem pretty decent!
I would buy from massdrop
Doesn't massdrop deals for speakers usually not ship to Australia due to size/weight?
sorry was thinking more of 5.1/7.1 headphones. Even after the conversion and the delivery u still save hundreds. I love good quality music/movies so computer speakers just not going to do it. might as well just buy a cheap $30 speakers. For $150 you can get a above decent headphone from mass drop usually retail around $300+ in australia

Logitech sale
I have myself a set of Logitech Z623 2.1 THX Certified Speakers. I love these things to bits. Louder than I'd ever need. Crisp and punchy.
Great for music and movies. I tend to use my headphones for gaming, as they've got 7.1 built in.
I would buy a set of over ear headphones so you don't disturb others.
no such thing, get some decent headphone
