Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Price Drop?

Hey Guys

I have been waiting for a few months to pick up a Note 4. I thought that I would wait a little while for the release of the Note 5. However I have noticed the the Australian dollar has been dropping a bit and was wondering whether or not I should still wait?

What is your take on the situation, would the falling AUD cause a price increase instead?

  • Well, the thing is that electronic items will always depreciate in value. So as a result, prices should drop.

On the other hand, the falling Australian dollar will make way for some price increases.

Overall, you'd certainly expect some price drops for handsets like N4 (as the N5 is released), but the magnitude of that price drop would not be as dramatic as previously seen in the market. This would be the likely effect of the diving AUD.

  • +2

Hmmm, I don't think Note 4 series would lose its value fast. Note series always became cheaper at slower rate than S series, not to mention, how Note 5 doesn't have SD card nor the replacable battery did increase demand on Note 4 as well. I'd personally wait longer, the exchange rate is… I think it's going to rise at some point in future.

For your reference, Note 3 was at $500 dollars at JB HiFi few weeks ago, so yeah.

    • Its interesting how people keep complaining about the replaceable battery. However pretty much everybody i know who has a phone with a replaceable battery don't actually replace the battery LOL. I only know of 1 person who actually does replace their battery.

I work in IT so pretty much everyone i know is tech savvy. I do see people carry around portable USB chargers

      • I personally think it's a feature that most people don't use, but those people who use it cannot live without.
For those people who absolutely require a battery life that lasts over 1 day with constant usage, I think replacable battery is better (since having the powerbank dangling around is annoying).

That said, I sort of sit on the fence when it comes to removal of replacable battery. They did add Quick Charge 2.0 (60% in 30 minutes was it?) and similar function for wireless charging which makes Wireless Charging rather fast as well. Having it non-replacable probably made the battery life longer (because they can cram in more without worrying about durability of the battery when it's removed etc). The only problem I see is, Australia do not have service centre spread across cities like US or Korea, so it'd be annoying to get the battery replaced (it was $50 in US or something I think, not really sure).

I should stop myself from digressing. The point I was making was, it's a feature that some people cannot live without (in Korea, they used to give 2 batteries on phones because of that). Because of that, those people will go for Note 4 over Note 5, increasing the demand on Note 4.

        • The replacement battery a godsend for travelers.
