Hi all leaving to Auckland from Melbourne on Friday 4th sept
Just saw our Aussie dollar fall :( will be spending $3000 aud and looking for the best place to convert it. Prefer to just take cash as I was told from relatives that there is atm fees/international conversion fees etc. Just have anz cards/credit cards which we won't be using. Thanks for all your help :)

The best place is at an ATM using a card with no atm or international conversion fees. You've left it too late to apply for a better card if your current ones do have fees. But you should check what they are anyway as even if your card does have some conversion fees they may be better than the commission you would pay otherwise
Considering ANZ stands for Australia and New Zealand I would check the PDS of the cards you have. I know for Westpac you can use Westpac ATMs in NZ and it is like normal.
Pretty much the only reason to have an ANZ account is the ability to use it freely in both A and NZ.
BTW, can you guess what the letters stand for?
Not sure what you've heard but they charge fees even when using anz ATMs.
They certainly did 5 years ago when I was in Vietnam. In my pre ozbargain days, I thought that using a bank's atm in a foreign country would grant me some kind of special treatment, so we trekked across the centre of Hanoi all day to get to an ANZ atm, to find out a few days later our loyalty was rewarded with an atm withdrawal fee + a %age of the amount drawn. #citibankplus4lyf
Personally, when I travel overseas, I find that I usually get a better currency conversion rate in the destination country(s).
But I can't really speak for NZ, as it's been 25 years since I last went there.
