AmEx Select+Pay with Points - Woolworths and 7/11 - 15% More Value $0.00805 Per Point

160

First post from me, hopefully it's pretty decent.

15% more value if you select+pay your woolies and 7/11 with your points, the normal rate is $7.00 credit per 1000 points, but using this deal, you can get $8.05 per 1000 points you use.

Use points for eligible transactions

Click on 'Use points' to redeem points for a statement credit. Minimum redemption 1,000 points. Credits will appear in your account in 24-72 hours

For the instructions:
1. Login to your www.amex.com.au as normal.
2. Underneath your points, click Redeem
3. It will bring you to Membership Rewards website
4. There will be slider, there are 6 deals I think, the second one is about this deal. Click on the slider.
5. It will automatically bring you to the actual screen to apply line by line which transactions you want to get credit back - Select and Pay.

It's only for membership rewards with AMEX issued card or AMEX cards that not linked to QFF, Velocity, or other types of frequent flyer.

  • Need for detailed instructions, select option at Woolies or need to visit a website for it?
Link would be helpful too. Thanks.

It's in your AMEX account, you can pay for (any?) transactions with points on certain cards.

This is "bonus" value when paying against Woolworth / 7eleven / etc transactions.

It's still a horrible use of points compared to long haul domestic and international airfares.

Yes it is poorer value compared to using it for upgrade or international flight, but it is better than buying gift cards.

Most gift cards rates are between $0.0067 to $0.0075.

It is good as well if you need money quick, it will be credited directly to your AmEx and less money to pay.

      • Thanks for this.

        This deal translate to $8.05/1000pts = 12,422pts/$100

        WISH giftcard redemption is 13,500pts/$100

A pretty good offer when you compare the two. And especially for those with lower point balances.

Ozbargainers style, if you get credit back $100 for example and you use it to shop at Woolies again, you can get 300 points (for AMEX Platinum Edge) instead of using WISH gift card which yield no point.

        • Actually this works out better than a MEL-BNE flight.

$109 (alternate carrier, because virgin prices are massively inflated) - $22 (points + pay, tax portion)

          $7.98/1000pts = $87/10,900pts

(Although you can additionally stack this with 15% off points seats from time to time. You can also transfer 15% more points to Velocity during promotional periods.)

        • @fvalemus: Platinum Reserve here, sadly I would only earn 100pts. But still does bring the Points/per $100 lower.
          Score!

  • try to find it on my qantas discovery, couldnt find it last night. any idea if the points stated here is qantas frequent flyer points or other general amex points

    • It's for select cards that earn AMEX points.

The Platinum Edge (and above) should be one of them.

    • It's only for membership rewards with AMEX issued cards.

I think saving your points and transfer to airline miles worth a lot more since member rewards with AMEX has a big variety of transfer partners.

You will get more values that way, especially transfer for airlines miles and redeem for business class.

  • Good deal I'd say, for those who just use it on Gift Cards/cashback anyway.

Can't see much value in it for 7-11 (for me) but for Woolies, certainly not too shabby.

Having said that, still inferior value to premium class flights but not everyone flies (or people just want to get from A to B for the cheapest price).

    • Indeed. For family reason, I won't be able to fly for overseas holiday for 2 years at least; so better to use it to get money back quickly.

      • Family reason for me will be like topping up your public transport card (Myki, Opal, etc) at 7-Eleven and then redeem points against that.
Public transport never goes on discount, so this can be an effective way to use your points.

  • I have a question, CBA issued my amex. Am I eligible for this deal?

    • Nope because your points are CBA rewards.

      This is Membership Rewards Ascent.

    • What is the membership reward of your CBA AmEx card? I bet CommBank Awards Program or QFF; then the answer is No.

The membership reward of AmEx issued cards is Ascent. This deal only applies to Ascent membership reward.

    • Thanks guys! Yes, it is connected to combank awards

I am not sure relevant or not but ,Paying with Amex reward points holds more value if you book flight through Amex Travel or Pay for your hotel/flight/Car on webjet.

It gives me $10/1000 points on above two.

I always saves these points for my annual holiday leave & spend on Hotels booked through webjet. The beauty is you still can use Qwibble or Cashrewards & any promo code on top of it & make your amex reward point earn bit more.

    • That's wicked idea but think it has changed now.

The Webjet chasback (on both of the cashback sites) is on hotels only. Not on flights.

      • Yes, Cashbacks are on Hotels only .

In my case , I have 60000 odd points last year (I know hard work & Good strategy to collect all these point) , I booked Hotel through Webjet in Gold Coast for $660. Use some webjet Promo code to bring it down to $575 Paid with 57500 amex points & got 6.xx % cashback from Qwibble & also earn some Flybuys points.

Also previously booked flight through amex travel cost $119 & paid with 11900 points.

        • Good work depends if you're travelling in peak season, however, for flights Webjet is ~2-3% more expensive than other travel sites, some even offer 1% cashback. Also the Webjet booking fees etc. eat around 6-7,000 reward points. So 12,400pts/$100 at Woolies is not so bad a deal, IMO.

  • Worked for me for my Amex-issued card.
