Or $60pm with Virgin and get 10gb, unlimited/unlimited, $300 international, but with data rollover.

  • I think they only drop $10 off a mobile plan for the first mobile plan. They won't give the $10 off for a second / third plan.

    • Oh is this true?
I was just creating a spreadsheet on how to best pool between 4 family members using the $10 discount on each since we have Optus Broadband. Looks like I'll have to adjust it.

      • +1

Yep, I signed up my wife early this year on their $50 plan and got the galaxy note 3, they dropped it to $40 a month.

I wanted to sign up last week and they said it's only valid for 1 customer

    • +2

This is true, I currently have 3 Plans only 1 is eligible for discount.

      • Thanks for confirming.

  • does this plan not count towards data rollover?

perfect plan for the family sharing!!

Just upgraded from my $60 BYO plan to the $80 plan listed.
6.5 minutes using their text chat support. These Telco's are always so efficient when you want to give them more money.

i am with optus and paying $40 for 8GB sim only Plan. This plan is too expensive if they offer $10 off as they do on $60 Sim only plan than i will jump to this.

15GB plan only worth paying $60 in total no more than that.

    • +2

I don't think you are appreciating the value of data in 2015.

      • -1

Here i am not considering only data value but other compromises you make to use optus service.

As what i consider is optus 15GB data only worth $60 and Telstra 15GB data worth $80.
Because as when i am inside home i never get 4G coverage even on their map they shows very good coverage inside home. while with Telstra i do.

Same as when i am commuting from home to work and work to home in train if i am traveling in peak time these telcos cannot cope with number of users exceed as data is so so slow even they shows 4G coverage on signals and signals keep dropping on optus.

I only get smooth data streaming if i travel off peak and which i can totally understand because in that train number of user so less and you get proper coverage and speed.

        • +2

Sure. I understand what you are saying, but the market is what it is and 15GB at Telstra for $80/Month? My man if you can do that, first month is on me!

You may want to check your phone. Telstra are great, expensive, but great. Regardless of what people think/say about Telstra, their network is one of the best on the planet. Just sucks we have to pay so much more.

          https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/plans-and-rates/preā€¦

Telstra's 16GB plan is $195 though a month and they have nothing remotely close to an $80 a month plan with equivalent data from what I can see. On the other end of the spectrum, their $70 plan has 6GB of data.

        • @Smigit: Should add the $195 isn't sim only, but none the less the point stands that Telstra cost a heck of a lot more than this.

    • +1

$40 for 8GB is a good deal, unless you use more than 8GB. Which I do.

I was on the $60 8GB plan, using 10-11 GB per month, resulting in a total monthly charge of $110 per calendar month.
I now save $30, with the ability to now watch more YouTube videos on the train each day for no additional charge.

      • +2

Wouldn't you be better off with Optus $2 days?

        • Some days I use more than 500MB. So not really.

        • @QW3RTY:
up to you. So $4 for the heavy days.

Would save paying for mobile calls as well.

    • Optus will offer the $10 discount for this plan as well, therefore this will be $70 for 15GB. So its up to you to work out if need the extra 7GB a month at $30.

  • This is flamin fantastic! Thanks op, just ordered it.

80 bucks I'd redonk. 40 dollar plan is plenty. 4Gb I'd data is fine

  • +3

Actually virgin are also doing same deal but with rollover of international minutes and data. The international is $300 not 300 minutes but it isn't limited to selected countries.

    Nice to be getting choices

  • Why not utilise the Optus $2 days sim only plan, 500mb per day (15gb/month), unlimited calls, unlimited texts $2 x ~30 days = $60 /month. Only downside is the international minutes in the linked plan. Additional 10% bonus credit when prepaid credit bought at Big W or Woolies + EDR qantas points at Woolworths + 5% rebate with ME savings card + 4c/litre at Woolworths servos. #canstack

    • +2

Because having 500MB/day is really a different product to getting 15GB/month.

What if once a week you use 3GB/data, and every other day you only use 300MB?
The 15GB monthly allowance would work, but the 500MB daily allowance wouldn't.

    • I like to think of it more as.

      $2 Days

Spend $70p/m 17.5gb/Month ($70 if your already a optus customer.)
      Spend $80p/m 20gb/Month (Not a optus customer.)

The downside is you need to manage your data usage per day.

There is lots of 9999 Bal (to INSTANTLY check your balance)

  • I am currently on $80 optus my plan plus
Could I move to this offer ?

    • If you're out of contract.

    • This is SIM ONLY month to month plan. There was no other sim plans at $80 before today, so I presume you are on a contract with a phone, you can move to this if your contract is over.

  • +2

My guess is after the $60 SIM plan which is currently $50 expires. They will drop this $80 SIM plan to $70. And if you are an Optus Broadband Customer with the extra $10 off it will be $60 for 15GB!!! Lets come back October 5th and check, love the flexibility of month to month plans, been changing plans each time Optus change plans lol

Why on earth would this be considered a bargain! ?80 dollars! …. no phone included. ..psssst..

    • +2

Because $80 plan with a phone includes 6gb of data plus handset repayments plus $10 extra per gb. So 15gb would cost you $170. I would prefer bring my own phone!

      • Schezwon has a valid point. You may choose to bring in your own phone but at the end of the day, you are paying $100+ per month to have a mobile service which is way too much.

        • If you don't need that much data then you'd go on a different plan and save money. It's a high usage plan. Being over $100 doesn't on its own make this a bad deal if what's being offered for the price is reasonable. Budget plans aren't necessarily suitable for everyone.

I'm on Telstra and I'd love to have access to a similar data quota at this price.

    • +1

So you expect a phone with this awesome deal? Did you know that the latest flagship phones roughly end up being 800+ upon release. Mate, 'You can't eat your cake, and have it too'…

Buy your phone outright then if you want more data for less cost. No one is forcing you to buy the latest flagship phones, there are perfectly good smartphones under $200 that can handle current apps.

  • Geez people in this country aren't happy with anything these days. Always want more for less, and when they get more, they still complain it's too much….. seriously…..

  • cough, amayasim recharge offer of 5gb + unlimited talk/text for about $20, stackable & its 4G on Optus… nothing ive seen has come close yet and i have 12 month of recharges to 'tie me over' until they do!
