  • how is this a bargain?

you can pickup cheapass gps units for under $100aud retail these days… not to mention most decent phones/smartphones have GPS+a-GPS inbuilt!

i am really do not see the point in a golfing specific tracking device… if i need to mark a beacon point then every GPS i've ever used had this feature!

hell for that price i could buy a decent garmin outback unit! or better yet an EPIRB!

    • It's clearly not a sat-nav device and has a very specific purpose. Not being a golfer myself I can't argue if this is useful or not but they sell for US $399 (new) from the manufacturers website, so it seems like a reasonable price (especially with the cashback).

Still welcome the attempt even if I don't exactly understand it.

    • I can't imagine golfers needing an EPIRB, plus I don't think an EPIRB can help you find the closest pizza shop anyway. Time to go back to sleep niyaje….

Golf GPS system are different. You load your local golf course onto the system and it can you very acurate information. It can give you the exact distance to the front, middle and back of the green.
Tell you how long you hit your drives. All this information is recorded and you can see your statistics over several rounds of golf.

I agree they are not for everyone but serious golfers love these as they shave lots of shots off there game as they know the correct distances. Also most course allow these in golf competitons now also.

  • The Rep might also want to mention that there is a one off USD$50 registration fee to access golf course data.

    • You can actually get your first 5 courses free under the "Par Member" or you can map your local course for free.It is very easy to map your course yourself.

  • I noticed that this seems to be a unit manufactured in the States?

Are there many Australian Courses mapped?

    • You can search to see if your course in available at
      http://www.sonocaddie.com.au/Course.aspx

They have people walking and mapping courses all over the world. You can email them to request a course on there website also.

More courses are becoming available all the time and you can also map the course yourself which is very easy.

  • Not a golfer but seems like a bargain

Likewise - price seems ok, and a nice ozbargain deal offer. Also for polite rep response to members queries and concerns. Pity my slice keeps me off any golf course anywhere…
