Glenlivet 18 + Free Glencairn Glass - $99.99 + Delivery @ Aldi Liquor

300

First post, yadda yadda. Anyway, been noticing alot of whisky deals recently and came across The Glenlivet 18yo at Aldi for $99.99 + delivery. Also includes free Glencairn glass for orders over $50!

Quick boozle search for my area shows the cheapest as DM or 1st Choice both at $120

Lagavulin 16 isn't bad either at $83.99 , but is cheaper at Vintage Cellars ($79.99) http://www.aldiliquor.com.au/spirits/whisky/whisky-singlemal…

  • And unlike DM's their shipping is fast. I ordered that Leffe Radieuse Friday, and it arrived at my place in Brisbane suburbs this morning.

murphy's price without glass $99.95 with free delivery

    • Looks like they keep looking for prices and change them accordingly like they did for Chevas earlier.

    • They're also charging $7 to my area.

      Doesn't say free delivery anywhere.

It's free if you subscribe to their alcoholics program, or if you order over $300 of value.

Yep so you could get it from Uncle Dan's with a glass with free delivery and if you had the AMEX offer pay $94.85.

edit: or get the Laphroaig Triple Wood for the same price which would be my personal preference.

      who has AMEX

      • +1

        Me.

    • I'm not sure comparing a Speyside malt with an Islay malt is really applicable? I mean if you favour the Laphroaig, it's likely for the strong peat characteristic, where Speyside malts are typically the lightest/sweetest of the single malts. In saying that, I prefer The Macallan (even if they are no longer allowed to call themselves Speyside) to Glenlivet.

      • +1

Like I said, I prefer Laphroaig over pretty much anything else, I'm an Islay man.

        • Ooops, missed the whole "personal preference" bit. I do enjoy a glass or two of Bowmore myself if you twist my arm. Well twist it just enough to get the top off the bottle.

  • This is really quite a nice drop for $100. I've had a bottle in my little "collection" for over a year and I rarely drink it without some sort of special occasion. Glenlivet in all ages have some really exceptional quality scotch. Even their 12 year old is a really nice single malt for the price (when you can find it for under $50).

A colleague of mine won a Glenlivet pack - one of each 12, 15, 18, 21, 25 year old, and he swears that the 15 is much better than the 18, however I haven't tried it so I can't confirm. Perhaps someone who has tried both can provide some insight.

    • Founders Reserve is apparently not so hot…

      • +1

Yep, and it's replacing my standard drink of 12 year Glenlivit which they won't stock anymore soon…. oh the horror :(

        • Yeah, I saw that they replaced the 12 year old Glenlivet with the Founders Reserve, I was under the impression that they are the same but haven't tried it yet as I have 3 bottles of 12yo from a lucky bargain a while back (local store had them reduced down).

It's sad if they have changed it, as the 12 hands down destroys most in its price range. Drats!

        • @brezzo:
          Not the same taste :(

    • I have the Glenlivet 15yo and I really like it as a Speyside whisky. Are you saying I should get this to compare? Sounds like a good reason, now to convince the missus :D

      • Nope, the 15 is the better drink, treasure it, save your money and buy something nice like the Lagavulin 16 for contrast.

        • Yes, but if downforce doesn't like an Islay malt, he is taking a risk in getting a full bottle of Lagavulin. I don't mind it myself, it's got lovely rich peaty flavours, but I know many a scotch fan who prefer a typical Speyside malt and can't really handle the Islay malts like Lagavulin, Bowmore, etc.

        • @brezzo:
Lagavulin is the best Islay you can recommend someone who isn't after a full body peat. It's the easiest drinking Islay when it comes to smokiness in my opinion.

        • @cymon: I agree :)

  • Don't worry, lazy Dan will "beat" that Lagavulin price by 5-10c tomorrow.

    • +2

I really dont get why people bash DM for their price beat or that they are lazy for doing so. Most places you go to only match prices. Dan have their own sales and then also match, who cares if its only 5-10c. Can be a lot more convenient for a lot of people to get to a Dan's store, i know id rather go there then line up with people in Aldi waiting for them to get through their full trolleys….

      • +6

The reason why people like myself bash DM is because they are more a follower than a leader these days when it comes to pricing. It's lazy practise, and boasting that they "beat any prices" when they discount no further than 10c more is frugal. They are using their monopoly at the expense of competitors genuinely discounting and deserving our loyalty.

      • +1

Because if they had no competitors doing sales, they wouldn't do any themselves. Relying on others to give good prices. It's lazy and a kick in the teeth to consumers

        • +1

So DM run no sales of their own? Have brought plenty of grog from DM over time without it being on sale elsewhere.

All a bit odd, all shops do it, woolies and coles do it all the time, bunnings and Masters etc Would any business be running sales if their competitors weren't.

Each to their own i guess…

  • Did anyone else order from the website and miss out on the Glencairn glass?
