For what it's worth, this is the regular price, but as far as value they are amazing shirts. I'd happily pay $100 for these shirts, and don't consider going anywhere else. For this price, it's stunning value. Free postage paid returns for any reason also. Very highly recommended.

I don't see any shirts for $39, they start at $59 for me…

Sorry not sure how the link got screwed up.

Just remember their sizing is very odd. I'm 180cm tall and have a slim/medium build (medium Aus shirts fit well) but for these guys a super slim fit small is what fits me well.

The free returns helps with these guys. Extremely good quality shirts. Also 8% cash back with CT too.

Agree their super slim fit is not what I was expecting… I ordered some slim fits, and needed to return for super slim, but they are still roomier than some of the 'european cut' slim fit shirts from other vendors

      • I haven't ordered in a while but apparently they resized their super slims to actually be super slim. When did you do this?

        • Probably about 6 months ago… returns process was super easy though and no dramas with them exchanging..

Time for another order I think

        • My last order was about 3-4 months ago.

It is amusing, in a world of increasingly obese people, we are complaining about clothing being TOO BIG.

I quite like Charles Tyrwhitt. The arms are the right length rather than down to my knuckles. They aren't super slim, but still are a much better than the poorly shaped, cheap rubbish you find in K-Mart et al.

        • You can actually choose which sleeve length you want. Just use their instructions on how to measure it - took me less than 5 minutes.

I have always had a problem with shirts that are a good feet around the neck and shoulders having sleeves that are too long. I'm happy to report that with CT allowing you to choose your sleeve length this is no longer a problem.

IMHO, it's the next best thing to having your shirts tailor-made.

  • Agreed. For their prices their shirts are fantastic value. May take a couple of tries to get the fitting right but its free local return.

Anyone know what the postage time is approximately from CT?

    • A bit over a week i believe. Think i ordered on a Monday and then got my order the following Tuesday/Wednesday

      • Cool cool, last time I ordered from CT, it took about a month and a half.

  • Their measurement guide explains how to do the collar, sleeve length etc, but nothing about how to do the chest and belly, which seem more important!

I need some decent shirts, but wish they could be sized with numbers and not marketing nonsense - I'm definitely not "super slim", but am I "European" fit or should I play safe and go for "Lardarse"?

their standard cut is pretty large, I'm fat and am wearing their slim fit. Try a extra slim cut if you're not big like me :P

How do you get cash back while using a code? Doesn't seem to work.

    • This.

      • Try adding the coupon TGACR, this will trigger a link to the promotional site. Can't vouch for it, but it has been suggested before.

    • I'm curious to see if anyone has successfully received cashback from CT.

  • good to know of this shop. Thanks for all the testimonials. Will be good to buy a bunch in future

  • Is there anyway to adjust the length of a shirt?

  • Thanks OP, I grabbed a pair of pants with the leg length custom adjusted and 4 non iron shirts for 250. Hopefully the fit is all good. Cheers!

I can vouch for Charles Tyrehitt customer service. The last time they had the $39.95 sale, I ordered a few shirts. They arrived, but I wasn't happy with the size (I ordered regular fit when I should've ordered slim fit). By the time I tried them on, the sale was over. But I called their local customer support line (which is actually forwarded to their UK call centre) and they let me make a new order at the discounted price even though the sale had ended. I sent back the original order (came with paid postage label) and got the refund two weeks later.

Pro tip: if it's your first time and you're unsure on sizes, order the same shirts in multiple sizes and use the paid return label to send back the ones that don't fit.

I know they include a return address label, but this 'pro tip' seems like lazy exploitation of a great service. There is enough advice out there to make an informed decision on sizing, if it happens to be unsatisfactory then return as intended. This price isn't likely to change any time soon, the mere potential for an added wait isn't that bad is it? Hate to be the stick in the mud, though a bit of thought should come naturally to a responsible and considerate community :-)

      • Well said.

Also, yeah, it seems like it will run for a while: "The offer end date is Sunday 29th November 2015."

      • I didn't come up with that idea on my own, I got it from Charles Tyrwhitt themselves. On the included "refund/returns" form, there are some tick boxes to indicate the reason for return. One of them is "ordered multiple sizes". Sounds like they expect/condone it?

      • On the ordering of multiple sizes: how is it "exploitation"? CT would know full well that this is what people will do. And clearly they have factored that into their business model.

Presumably the thinking is that if they allow for lots of flexibility, first-time customers are (1) more likely to take the plunge and actually buy the shirts and (2) more likely to buy CT shirts in the future. The few dollars extra that it might cost them the first time around is a small price to pay.

I don't think customers have an obligation to create deliberate inconvenience for themselves and take a gamble that they have got all their measurements and sizing information spot on.

      • +1

Charles Tyrwhitt encourage customers to do this.

      • It's clearly a conscious decision on their part and an emerging trend among online retailers, though from a business perspective it's a promising statistical strategy with no guarantee of return. Obviously if everyone were to return something from each order it wouldn't prove viable, we can assume this isn't the case. I am referring to the casual range with standard sizing; based on what I've read even in this thread alone I feel comfortable ordering size S, to order an XS and M as well would seem selfish. Difficulty with the business line's multiple metrics is much more understandable. I might decide to order a small spread of sizing if I thought I'd still be unsure of the correct size were my first estimate incorrect, perhaps if my uncertainty spanned more than a size in either direction for both sleeve and collar. Just promoting thought and diligence, perhaps playing devil's advocate. My thoughts aren't so much with CT, but more the unnecessary environmental cost however small.

Adding my 2 cents worth. I love CT's "No Quibble" refund guarantee and as a responsible and considerate consumer I do not want to abuse an online retailer with such a considerate and excellent business model otherwise we run the risk of making such a model not work financially and they change it for the worse (which would be bad for everyone). Neither do I want to be banned as a consumer for CT which apparently they can do.

Having said that I absolutely did order multiple shirts with the intention of returning at least one of them. Here's why:

        1. I checked CT's sizing guide and measured my body multiple times. However I got slightly varying results each time (I measured myself, asked my wife, son and then my tailor as well). I was getting results that were +- up to 2 cm difference.
        2. Certain measurements (in particular chest and sleeve) I was right on the cusp. Making it a bit uncertain whether I would fit the extra slim fit (for chest) or 84cm sleeve (vs 86).
        3. Having done everything I felt I could to try to avoid such a situation, I ordered two of the same with the intention of keeping one.
        4. In addition, you can't always account for shirt texture and colour online or via their excellent brochures. Sometimes you just have to see it. For instance, is the shirt going to be too thin? Is the Non-Iron going to feel ok, or is it going to feel like cardboard? Is that colour in the brochure (or screen) going to be accurate in the flesh?

So what was the end result (for those interested in fit and feel)?

I ordered a neck size down to try to get the fit I wanted for the extra slim fit. This strategy was ok for the normal extra slim fit cotton shirts round the chest (so being on the cusp of the chest size is ok for the normal shirts as they have some give). My normal neck size shirt was far too baggy (so I need to return it). Note that around the waist it is still relatively loose but I expected that (their extra slim is not very slim at all). Surprisingly I was able to button the neck button of the size down, which I had thought I would not be able to. It is possible that they are generous with neck sizes.

The one non-iron shirt I ordered was too tight (with the shirt pulling around the chest button). My thoughts are that the process to make a Non-Iron cotton shirt, also means that the shirt does not stretch. However it is possible that the weave I ordered contributed to this as well. I hate to give up on the concept of non-iron so I'm tempted to order another totally different weave in the hope that it might make a difference…however, that might well result in another return…should I do that as a responsible and considerate consumer? (I know I said that tongue in cheek but I am genuinely agonizing about this!).

Their non-iron feel is ok. It doesn't quite feel as soft and luxurious as cotton, but it doesn't feel like plastic either. It does appear to resist wrinkles quite well. Naturally I haven't washed any of the shirts and am just commenting based on initial touch.

Warning: I did order a CT Egyptian Cotton Herringbone weave shirt late last year and whilst the shirt is nice, it is relatively thin and wrinkles like a biotch! No amount of ironing can makes it look pristine, and I when I wear it, I resign myself to the fact that it will look quite wrinkled throughout the day (basically as soon as I get into the car - the seat belt will wrinkle the heck out of it).

Lastly, I ordered a week ago (Sunday - the package arrived at my work on Thursday which is amazing for air freight) to take advantage of their 4 for $199 offer, combined with a 10% discount voucher I had. However, they did not process my 10% discount charging me a higher price (it was the correct price at checkout, then when I entered my card details I didn't check the amount and after I submitted I realised that somehow the price had increased). They still have not responded to my enquiry about this (submitted a week ago). So now I'm tempted to return the whole lot, eat my $13 freight charge and re-order with this new lower priced offer.

  • Is the sizing of the Polo shirts any different? I'm pretty slim and from the comments here don't know if Slim Fit will be slim enough.

  • Has this ended? I can't see any $39.95 shirts anymore.
