$10 iTunes Card for $4 at Woolworths

960

In the latest Woolworths 'Back to school' catalogue starting 4th Jan they have a very good promotion for both Artline pens and iTunes gift cards. This is the website you claim your voucher at: http://rockback2school.artline.com.au/

  • Buy Artline 200 Fineliner Pen Pk 2 for $3.99 ea and get 'Bonus $10 iTunes card'
  • Buy Artline 70, 90 or 700 Permanent Marker Pk 2 for $4.49 ea and get 'Bonus $10 iTunes card'
  • Buy Artline 750 Laundry Marker Pk 2 for $4.49 ea and get 'Bonus $10 iTunes card'
    <br />
$10 bonus iTunes card with $3.99 pens

So you can get $20 worth of iTunes cards for only $8 and get 4 felt-tip pens at the same time!

This is in the general Woolies catalogue so I assume it should be everywhere (in NSW at the very least).

Since iTunes cards are so popular I'm sure this will be good news for many.

Enjoy!

Note: Promotion is for the first 2,000 buyers only. It's an 'instant win' method though, but strictly limited to first 2,000 entrants only. The website says 1 per customer only, and asks for a receipt number. So if you want to make it $20 of iTunes for $8 you need to purchase your pens on two separate dockets. With self-serve these days it's not a terrible amount of effort but please be aware you cannot buy more than 1 pack per receipt to claim your bonus cards. Full T&C's here - http://rockback2school.artline.com.au/Artline%20Rock%20Back%… . The promotion commences NOW so you can go and buy your pens immediately. Since this hasn't been advertised anywhere else I'd say there's a strong chance of claiming your bonus card straight away, but the quicker the better.

Excerpt from the T&Cs:

The first 2,000 valid claims received will each be awarded a $10 Apple iTunes
voucher. Claimants will be notified immediately on submitting their entry form
whether they have been awarded a $10 Apple iTunes voucher. The voucher
will be automatically sent to the email address submitted by the successful
entrant in the online entry form. Any ancillary costs associated with redeeming
the voucher are not included. Any unused balance of the voucher will not be
awarded as cash. Redemption of the voucher is subject to the iTunes Store
terms of service.

Update: Many bargainers have successfully redeemed their vouchers. Several users have also noted that the iTunes voucher is being sent straight to the junk-mail, check there if you don't get it straight away.

RockDJ also adds:

FYI to anyone claiming this deal: my pens had 2 barcodes on them, the one to use is the on the cardboard itself. Might save you having to type your details in twice (like I did).

MOD: title shortened in order to mark 'expired'

    great find cyssero.

  • gonna be there monday :)

    thx for the good find!

    • No problem, don't wait til' Monday if you can help it, go in today, the promo has started!

      • Why does it say from the 4th then?

  • Great. Looks like I will be buying all the fine liners next week.

  • Any date or mention of when cards expire?

    • +3

"Prepaid cards expire the later of two years from the date of (i) issuance or (ii) last activity on an iTunes Music Store account."

      (according to apple website)

  • Excellent find

  • +1

It'd be interesting to see if there are any fine prints to this (I.e. Limited to one $10 iTunes card per address), otherwise, we'll most likely see a huge increase of iTunes cards on sale on eBay. Nevertheless, great find!

  • Are the iTunes cards actual plastic cards, or will the code be printed on a receipt like a mobile phone recharge voucher?

    • +1

"The voucher will be automatically sent to the email address submitted by the successful entrant in the online entry form."

  • -3

    Could you possibly:

    1) Buy say 30 packs of the Artline 200 Fineliner Pen Pk 2 for $3.99 ea = $120.00
    2) Get $300 worth of iTunes cards
    3) Keep reciept, then take back the Fineliners = $120 back
    4) Sell iTunes cards on ebay in say $100 lots = sell for approx $70 x 3 = $210
    5) Minus ebay listing fees, postage etc = $40
    6) Make $150-$170?

    • Don't try your luck they are running a business!!!

    • +1

Please see my edit in the first post. You possibly can return them after claiming your bonus card, but I guess it's an honesty based system :)

    • +1

For the sake of your time, effort, and essentially forcing a lot of others to miss out, it doesn't really seem worth it.

Refunding a multitude of different receipts ends up taking more than 30s-1min for each receipt on the retailix POS (obviously depending on how quick the person is).

    • +4

Why, on every post like this, is there a stupid as comment about how to take advantage of it at the loss of everybody else including the merchant?

Like cyssero said, its obviously an honesty based system. Your musing with this plot is almost disgusting even from a theoretical p.o.v.

    • +5

Rort the system and you can forget about scoring similar bargains in the future.

  • already bought a stack of itunes cards when they were half off @ big w. However, this is a good deal, for sure!

  • This itune cards are getting so cheap. What is their real value? Few cents? In fact apple and and reatilers are ripping customers. The artists may be getting peanuts.

    • Retailers likely get very little profit for the cards (and for that matter, there's only a slight markup on the ipod range). If you need someone to blame for Apple's pricing, look at your peers for buying into Apple's pitch.

    • It's not the card that holds the value, it's what it represents in trade value.

Otherwise you could say the same about a $100 bill. It's only plastic, worth what, a few cents? Or to keep it relevant, how much does a CD or a game cost to print?

Regardless of if the artist/developer is receiving what they rightfully should or not, the monetary value of the card is what it represents, and apple/bigpond/etc. are just another retailer taking their slice of profit.

      • i think you misinterpreted his point.

he's saying, that in media purchased with $10 of itunes credit, possibly only cents go to the artist. thus the "value" of itunes credit is low.

        • Thanks kimmik you got it.

        • Except for the part where apple pays developers 70% of the revenue their applications generate…

  • Damn, from T&C:

    1. Only one (1) entry and claim permitted per household. $10 iTunes voucher
reward is strictly limited to the first 2,000 valid claims received.

Looks like no money can be made here….still a really good deal.

  • Could do with some of those medium sized permanent markers. :)

  • I'm voting +1 based on the effort that's gone into this deal.

  • +1

Buy Artline 750 Laundry Marker Pk 2 for $4.49 ea and get ‘Bonus $10 iTunes card’

Just went today and the price still $6.49 at our local Woolies

The website says 1 per customer only, and asks for a receipt number.

We have 3 people in our house can we all claim 3 individual but in the same address/email?

    • Quote from Rawm,

    • Well the website does not ask for your residential address, just your receipt number and postcode. I would say it would be possible, yes. Of course use 3 different e-mail addresses. If they leave cookies to remember you've claimed, use private mode or similar to get around it.

I can't see it being a problem. What if you have 2 mates over and they all want to claim from 1 PC? Shouldn't be an issue.

  • +2

Catalog must be for next week, but I've got the $10 voucher for my purchase just now. Win; many thanks.

    • Good to hear! Glad it worked out for you.

    • How much did you pay for the pens?

      • +2

$5.69 for the 700 fine-tipped pens. The price is right, and the pens were that sort or similar — the permanent markers but the thinnest (can't find them now! lol). Email with voucher received the second after I submitted the claim. :)

  • not such a good deal now that it's a limited offer

and in terms of my needs, those pens would be useless to me :p (although if you wanted to get those pens, then this is a bargain)

    • You don't think 60% off iTunes is a bargain?

      • +1

Neither do you? (I see no positive vote!)

        • +1

          Laziness/forgetfulness doesn't equal opinion.

  • u also go into the draw to win an ipod :D

  • +1

Bargain, thanks for the post, also entered the draw for the ipod…who cares about you think? If you don't think its a good deal don't buy it…don't need to make a big drama out of it!

  • fantastic! I wonder how long the itunes voucher will be valid for since i have yet to get an iphone

    • Two years.

  • +1

Got the pens tonight at Woolworths, although they cost $5.69 and not $4.49. I figure by the time the pens are actually reduced in price on Monday all the iTunes vouchers will have been won. Still figure a $10 iTunes voucher for $5.69 plus two free permanent markers is a good enough deal.

  • -8

can someone who has already purchased these pens please private message me a barcode … my woolsworth was sole out but i want to give the deal a whirl

    • +3

That would go against the whole promotion then, wouldn't it?
What about the oz bargainers that go there tomorrow in hope of a $10 card, they'll be beaten out by everyone who will just enter the barcode.

  • +3

^^^ I agree, that's no longer a bargain or deal, that just scamming something for free. And anyway, you need your Woolworths receipt number in addition to the barcode. Hopefully they will cross check this with Woolworths to make it fair to the people who purchased legit.

  • Just got my $10 iTune voucher too (In my hotmail Junkmail folder!! >_<) !!

    Thanks!!

  • +1

    Done and done.

Went out for dinner tonight so was going near a Woolies when I saw the offer. Got 2x Artline 200 for $4.69 each ($3.99 when catalogue starts). $9.38 for $20 iTunes + 4 artline pens seems pretty good. My mum uses these pens all the time so she thought it was good as its something she buys anyway.

Forgot to ask mum to put on separate receipt. Woops. Redeemed for 2 anyway, I figure I paid for it so I don't feel bad.

The catalogue is very misleading, my mum just read it and she read it as having a $10 iTunes card attached. It's on page 12 of the catalogue under "back to school". I went looking and looking for the # to see the terms of the offer but it took a while to find (on the same page but hard to see amongst the stuff about Caltex fuel offer). It says #Bonus $10 iTunes card via redemption. See in store for details. As you can see from the screenshot in the offer, it just has #*Artline ____ under the product. All the items on that page start with a * so it's hard to notice (me and mum both didn't see the # until I started looking for it). It would be better if it read "Bonus $10 iTunes Card#" so it was clearer.

Good deal anyway :-) What to buy…

EDIT: I should mention the email went straight to my junk folder so make sure you check. The store I went to didn't have anything up about the offer and there wasn't much stock out of the fineliners.

  • +1

My girlfriend and I took advantage of this offer.

Bought two separate pen packs at woolworths. Two separate receipts. Two iTunes vouchers. Thanks.

  • +3

FYI to anyone claiming this deal: my pens had 2 barcodes on them, the one to use is the on the cardboard itself. Might save you having to type your details in twice (like I did).

  • From what i've perceived, car-la-la's only wanting to secure himself a gift card because his store had run out. He obviously still has to buy the pens in order to complete the claim, yes?

Also, is there anything stopping people from getting the barcode of a packet of these pens from another store? Or do the barcodes differ from packet to packet, or store to store..?

Anyway, i'll be out tomorrow, whether i will risk it and wait until the sale price is a tricky decision.

    • A previous poster (now moderated) had published their barcode number, receipt number and store whereabouts. It's gone now, and while the poster was only trying to help people it wouldn't take long for it to get abused. Do they cross off receipts as soon as you enter them? Who knows. Are the barcodes the same or different? The UPC would be the same, but if there's a second barcode, it could be unique for the promotion. They wouldn't differ store by store, though.

Good luck with your purchase :)

      • After buying one earlier tonight, the 2 bar codes are made up of 1 that is just in the security sticker that is not used for anything, and the actual product barcode. The product bar code is different for each product in the range, the shopping docket number is the unique number.

I hope that artline cancel a barcode once it has been redeemed to avoid having cheapskates claiming without actually making a purchase, but from what I could tell there is no identifying feature of the shopping docket barcode to say that an artline product was purchased.

  • +2

it would have been great if artline put up how many was left…..

  • anyone know what happens if i claimed one and someone else in my household did as well? it says only 1 per household.

    • +3

Steve Jobs comes to your house to reclaim the additional $10

      • =O oh noess! what shoudl i do?

      • =O oh noess! what shoudl i do?

  • won 2!

I assume its AU iTunes? The email links to US iTunes thats all

    • I just won one too. The email link went via the US iTunes, but the code added AU$10 to my Australian iTunes account.

  • Catalogue online now. The offer is on page 12.

    http://woolworths5.smedia.com.au/activemagazine/getBook.asp?…

  • Went out and bought 4 packs, all worked.

But why do the barcodes not get delisted once used?!

    • Are you saying you can use the codes more than once??

      • That's what I'm saying.

Someone forgot to bar used barcodes.

  • I just got some of the artline 200 fine liners, but they came in a bonus pack with an artline high lighter. They scanned at $3.99. Bonus. :)

  • I missed out … It's officially over :(
    http://upload.ozbargain.com/2010/01/03/3116_artline_gameover…

  • well i'm happy, i managed to score myself $500 worth of itunes vouchers
    thanks artline

    • See below, i was only joking… no need to get on your high horses and negative me … it was a joke guys

  • haha sorry i was just stirring itsross… i can promise you i didn't really redeem this offer 50 times.

    • just 49 times?

  • Sure you did that's why it finish so fast!

  • wow those went fast
now how many are gonna appear on ebay…

  • the woolworths catalogue doesn't list the 2000 unit limitation
    isn't that misleading advertising ?

  • +1

Poor form if they didn't mention it somewhere. Most of Woolies items have no limit on them so if I bought those pens and was denied my iTunes voucher, I'd be pretty pissed off.

    • -1

It was via redemption from artrite, not woolworths diectly.

  • +1

linton-but woolworths just say 'bonus $10 itunes card' they dont say anything about limits of cards ,etc
they also dont say redemption via artrite on their catalogue

    • There is a footnote in there (#*). Looking at what the footnote directs to, it states that it's via redemption and to see in-store for details. The * also says to see page 8 for store availability.

  • +2

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/iTUNES-100-GIFT-CARD-VOUCHER-CODES-AU… looks like they're on eBay already :) "Buy with confidence, codes are unused and are an unwanted result of a corporate promotion. "

  • +1

Obviously the one redemption per household didn't apply to that guy. :S I'm tempted to buy it, and then not pay just to be annoying. :D

  • +2

pais-when i bought my pens on monday night i asked two staff at the store - no one knew anything about the details of the promotion. I then bought my pens, went online to look up the details and found the thread here.

so as far as I can understand the woolworths catalogue was misleading, in not mentioning how it was only valid for the first 2000 people. A company as big as woolworths need to have promotional offers stated clearly and not misleading in any way…..

i have contacted consumer affairs with my concerns

    • Just FYI, you can press reply to a response to keep things in the threaded format so the discussion follows chronologically/coherently.

By all means, contact consumer affairs, but I doubt it will progress far / at all. I'm just informing you as to what it's stated in the catalogue (as you don't seem to have seen the footnotes at all), which has excluded stores from this promotion (perhaps you visited an excluded store? I don't know) and that the promotion is via redemption.

From my own experience, I can tell you that most "by redemption" offers are due to it being from a third-party.. which makes sense. I agree that they could have been clearer with the limit and T&C's, but like I said, I doubt contacting consumer affairs will do much.

    • I'm sure Woolworths would be happy to refund you the full purchase price of your pens. :)

      • They are very good with returns and this is definitely an instance where they should be.

If I bought even one pack of pens and didn't get the redemption, I would take them back unopened and ask for a refund.

While a lot of OzBargainer's took advantage of the deal I feel like many people would have missed out. 2,000 isn't a lot to begin with - but having a system which can so easily be abused (and clearly was) is not going to help either. How many genuine redemptions were there? At least it was instant win to avoid any uncertain waiting period. It's hard to think of a redemption that could have worked better without requiring a mail-in receipt etc though.

  • -1

pai- in this case, the terms and conditions were not put up in the store I shopped at,(also i had talked to the staff on the night) so woolworths were at fault, and they agreed on that point, and they have resolved the issue to my satisfaction :-)

    • +1

I returned the two packets of pens that I bought and got my money back.

Really what more do you expect them to do? Give every individual who complained a $10 iTune voucher?

Good promotion bad execution I reckon.

    • I'm not (and haven't been) contending whether or not anyone is at fault, just that everyone cries "ACCC" whenever they can. I'm not saying you don't have a case, but rather than the # of legitimate qualms they get are diluted by (I'd imagine) a vast number of retarded reports… therefore it's unlikely anything will come to fruition as a result of your complaint.
