I was looking to buy Canon 700d twin lens for my friend's birthday. I needed to pick up on the day for the gift on birthday dinner. Dicksmith had probably the cheapest price with 15% off (with a promo code) on top of $899.10 their retail price. Promo code was valid online only. I walked in to DS Sydney CBD store at 5.30pm to ask if I order online would I be able to pick up item before they close the store (7pm). They guy from DS said it takes at least 2 hours to process the order and they cannot help me until tomorrow. So I went to JB HIFI if they would price match Dicksmith online sale. JB said they can only price match whats on their website, and cannot price match further discount with promo code (which was further saving of 15%). So I went back to DS and bought one loosing 15% saving. How legit was it for JB HiFi for not matching the price from DS online sale?

jb hifi doesn't have a price match policy.
They do but it varies from store to store.
How legit was it for JB HiFi for not matching the price from DS online sale?
Completely Legit. Their stores their policy. They probably also know that half the time the DS promotions are BS and the stores often are "out of stock" for the best deals.
Stores often don't price match promo code prices because they may not be able to verify if the promo code is unique to the customer or just a special offer.
How did you try getting them to price match? Did you show them the discounted price in the checkout of the online store? Or just mention that they had a promotion that day ?
Did you try talking to the manager?
I showed the discounted price on the check out and the sales person said they do not price match promo codes. I did not speak to the manager as I was rushing and most stores closes between 6-7pm.
Hmm strange. I've always gotten discounts at JB. I've just asked "Is this the best price you can do?"
I kinda hate to say it OP but you clearly left this to the last minute. So it's partly your fault…
I'd have ordered online in the morning or called up the JB store and tried to speak to the manager@knick007: I agree that I left it for last minute. Usually I give myself more than enough time to find a good bargain. But this time there was a female involved in the decision!! LOL
@shivdatt: Another thing you could have done is ordered online and handed your mate the receipt in a envelope with a note saying you'll drop it round to their place tomorrow or it's gonna be delivered etc
I've done that before and had it done to me before.
That said as much as I like a bargain if it is a good mate I'm prepared to pay more.
They don't but it's upto individual stores whether they will price match or not.
im pretty sure every price beat guarantee i have seen excludes promo/sales items.
Why does it take DS 2 hours to "process" an online order? What's to process? Order is placed and it should come through within seconds, then sales dweeb picks it off the shelf and hands it to the customer. This is the 21st century, apparently (but maybe not at DS).
JB's price matching is up to person helping you. I tried a price match at one store and they wouldnt, however another store didn't even bother checking before giving it to me.

How legit was it for Dick Smith for not matching the price from DS online sale ?
DS said it is exclusively online deal only, cannot not be applied in store. If I ordered online it would take at least 2 hours to process the order, he would not trust me even if paid online in front of him.
You made your own problems by not planning in the least.
Why would you expect JB to match a DSE promo code?
Why would you expect a DSE B&M store to match an online only code?
Why then would you expect JB to match a DSE online only code… at a JB B&M???
Jesus Christ some people.
I really dislike AU retailing but some people make me take their side.
Really appreciate your help!
You new?
I've had luck in DS before by just picking up the item taking it to the counter and asking if they can apply the same discount so I can buy it now rather than click and collect. Not sure if they put it through as a price match but I walked out with the item matched to the online price :-)
Can I be your friend? No one buys me an $800 gift.
Might be a bit late now, but DS have a code now to apply online prices in store - I experienced this when purchasing a harmony remote, was $50 in store and $27 online, I asked and another sales person overheard and applied the discount
the works on small items and its no big deal but for big items where theres hundreds of dollars at stake… yeah not gonna blame the employee for letting it go
i always look at it like this… the guy is on minimum wage, you're doing this shit to him at closing time and there will be repercussions if it was against store policy, why risk it?
OP, went through the same situation 2 months ago, although in my case I called a couple of JB stores as they were refusing to price match until I found one that Would do it. Also remember reading in a previous thread, that DS are allowed to price match their online items in store now.
it's JB HiFi's policy to price match. it's not binding. it's their store and their products. they can do what they want.
it's not a question of "how legit".
you could try another JB Hifi and with a different sales person then you may have success.
dick smith online sales aren't instantaneous. like they said 2hours possible processing time.
perhaps ordering earlier in the day with DSE would have ensured the best price.
