Help Needing a New Laptop (i7)

Hi everyone,

I wanted to get a laptop for normal use, a bit of photoshop.

Preferably FHD screen, atleast 15inch + screen size, minimum 8GB+ RAM, i7.

I have a Samsung SSD 250GB which I got during the ebay sale and would want to add it to the laptop.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

  • Lots to choose from how much are you wanting to spend?

    Hi scarecrow,

Sorry I did not specify the budget. If I am looking for something below 1000 is it reasonable? Thanks

My son has one of these Acer laptops which you should be able to find around the 1k mark.

I sent you a PM as I recently upgraded my laptop.

Get yourself a refurbished HP… is what I got on Ebay. (HP Envy 15)

    $<900.

    i7 (last gen)
15.6'' FHD screen (though shameful viewing angles).
MacBook ripoff, but made of plastic. Lightweight and thin design.
NVIDEA GeForce 720m (or 740m?? One of them).
16GB RAM! (I never need anything near this, but 16GB was all I could find TBH)
Verry good speakers (with Beats labeling, if that matters (it doesn't)).
    Numeric keyboard.
    Fingerprint scanner.
    Lit keyboard.
    4x USB 3.0
    and more…

  • Thanks scarecrow and inose for your replies.
scarecrow I would prefer not an acer. Sorry. Thanks

I have bought a Dell refurb before and would not hesitate again, come with new warranty and 15 day return if you dont like it.
    I bought an Inspiron 15 5000.
They have similar ones now. (mine was touch screen, no DVD)
    Inspiron 15 5000 Series Laptop 5th Generation Intel Core i7-5500U Processor (4M Cache, up to 3.00 GHz)] 16GB Dual Channel DDR3L 1600MHz (8GBx2) 2TB 5400 rpm Hard Drive Windows(R) 8.1 (64Bit) English Tray load DVD Drive (Reads and Writes to DVD/CD) NVIDIA GeForce 920M 4GB DDR3 Stereo speakers professionally tuned with MaxxAudio(R) by Waves 40 WHr, 4-Cell Battery (removable) 802.11ac + Bluetooth 4.0, Dual Band 2.4&5 GHz, 1x1 15.6 inch LED Backlit Display with FHD resolution (1920 x 1080) $ 1,099

    • Some of the models don't have OS included. Do we have to buy them separately?

      • +1

OS media is not included (as in, it does not come with a DVD disc) but the Os is preinstalled, license key exists and you get reinstall the operating system again using the hidden partition.

      • +1

thats not what it means. It is just like every other laptop, they dont supply OS disks, you make a recovery disks/use the hidden partition.
That said, I contacted Dell and they posted me the recovery on a USB for free.

My refurb was like new, no marks on it at all. It camein the original box, the only thing I could tell, maybe, was the power charging brick was not in a plastic bag, it just had a rubber band around the leads (but maybe that is how they all are, i dont know)

My Harddrive was a 1TB hybrid drive too (part ssd part Hdd) and had a touch screen, the one I listed looks to be a different model. it is more this model which is on sale new $1199 http://www.dell.com/au/p/inspiron-15-5548-laptop/pd?oc=y5104…
the one with a DVD drive must be a different looking beast http://www.dell.com/au/p/inspiron-15-5558-laptop/pd?ref=PD_O…. I would buy the new non-dvd model for only $100 more and get the touch screen (the dvd model looks to be a cheaper range)

always check the new prices as sometimes the refurbs are not a big saving, looking at it now, new looks better.

PVA, the dell website models are very affordable with descent specs. I will be closely looking at these options.
          Thanks PVA!
