Get Any Audiobooks for USD $1.95 Each (~AUD $2.73) @ Audible

450

This is so exciting I want to keep it for myself, but it's just too good not to share!

If you have used Audible, you would know that it has a monthly subscription service where you pay (USD) $14.95 for 1 credit/month or $22.95 for 2 credit/month. Each audiobook in audible is worth 1 credit. Pretty expensive, but I suppose it's worth paying, given that each audiobook may potentially provide you with 15-40 hours of entertainment. Anyway, I have stumbled upon a much cheaper way of getting credits.

  1. Create 2 Audible accounts from audible.com (make sure it's not audible.com.au). If you haven't used Audible before, use this link to get 2 audiobook for free. If you want to get 2 free audiobooks on both accounts, make sure you use 2 different credit card to register.
  2. Account #1 needs to be registered with an Australian address. This is your main account.
  3. Account #2 needs to be registered with an US address. You can get a free one by registering in one of those shipping services or just put a random address. This is where you pay for your Audible credit, so ensure you use your 28Degrees/Bankwest Zero to avoid foreign transaction fee.
  4. Now find an audiobook which is available in US, but not in Australia. I'm sure there are many but just to make it easy, you can use today's daily deal: Off Balance by Matthew Kelly USD $1.95 EDIT: The daily deal has changed today but you can buy this book instead, also for USD $1.95. I haven't tried it myself as I've hoarded enough credit for now but it should work.
  5. From account #2, purchase this book as a gift (Select "Give as a Gift" under "Add to Cart" on the right). Enter your e-mail as the recipient. Go to your e-mail account and you should receive an e-mail from Audible containing a redemption code for your book.
  6. Login to account #1, go to Browse Audible > Gift Memberships > enter the redemption code on the right. Because the book is not available for your region (Australia) you will get 1 credit instead of a book. You can do it as many times as you want with the same book if you like.
  7. Use the credit in account #1 to purchase any audiobooks.
  8. Cancel your membership in both accounts if you are not planning to use their subscription service, otherwise you'll be charged the following month.

Have fun and don't go overboard :) If you are an avid audiobooks listener, maybe consider continuing your membership while using this method to supplement the credits, so it will support the authors as well.

"Have fun and don't go overboard :)" - agreed but this is Ozbargain, people will download 1,000 audiobooks tonight even if they've never listened before.

    Awesome share though, thanks :)

  • This is great, thanks for posting

    tl;dr
    1) Audible has 30 day trial with one free book, you can get two instead: http://www.audible.com/t1/teachers_at
    2) Make two audible.com accounts, one with a payment method with a US address and one with AU address.
    3) For US$1.95, purchase this book as a gift to yourself (Select "Give as a Gift" under "Add to Cart" on the right). http://www.audible.com/pd/Self-Development/Off-Balance-Audio…
    4) Redeem the gift code you receive in your email from your Australian account. You get a credit instead, which you can use on any book.

Sounds too difficult… May be a deal for some.. For others guys, your local library might have links into bolinda audio, while the collection is no where as good.. It's free..

    • Theyre books :) not android phones, can't just get a different one if they don't have the one you want.

  • thanks, I'll be busy looking for books tonight.
    Can I use Telstra credit?

  • Alternatively, Audible allow you to return a book if you dont like it and get your credit back. I have done this a couple of times when the book I was reading was awful. If you are just after a free book, take your initial free credit books, listen to them and then return them for free credits.

    • Just be aware that it says within the conditions, that you can only return 2 books every IIRC 6 months. Of course you can probably email them if you need to return more then 2 books during that time, but nonetheless keep that in mind

  • This won't work for me. When I claim the code I get this error: The access code you entered is not valid. Please check your entry and try again.

You're probably on audible.com.au. Use audible.com for the Aussie account too.

      • It doesn't work with my AU audible account that I transferred from my old US account. Created a new AU account and it worked for me but now the book is back to its original price.

Anyone know another book we can use for this?

  • Same thing, code not valid. What gives!?

    • I just tried it and it still works, both from mobile and laptop. Did you do anything differently from the steps I listed above?

      • Says "The access code you entered is not valid" when trying to redeem gift from audible.com.au on Aussie addressed account. Tried to log into audible.com with Aussie addressed account and it did redeem but no credit, the book shows in "my library" on the US site and nothing in library on AU site.

        • You probably redeemed with your US account if it shows up there.

        • @scynaz: Nope AU one

        • @rgavin: Try using a different browser for each account. It may be due to cookies.

  • For some reason can't even see the Give as gift button even when I'm inside the page for the book. :(

    • If you're on mobile you have to change it to full site to see the gift option :)

      • I'm on Chrome on the desktop. This is what i'm seeing :/ Last thing is Add to Wishlist. http://puu.sh/jQf5L/cde0e9e7a9.png

Did you just sign up and haven't spent the 2 free credits? I remembered when I first signed up I couldn't use my free credit for gifts (As they don't want people to sign up to 10 different accounts while collecting the books in the main account). I think they only let you "give as a gift" with either real money or credit from paid subscription. If after you spent the free credits it still doesn't work, maybe try cancelling the membership then see if the gift option comes up.

Let me know how you go.

        • @paperkut: I've spent the 2 credits already but didnt cancel my membership yet! Thanks :) it's displaying now

  • Sounds like an exploit they will close if you draw enough attention to it, like the Telstra prepaid sims credit me2u free data exploit.

  • Not really good for me (because I already have one account with all my books and it's the US one). You have to be signed into Audible in order to listen to your books so it pays to keep everything on one account. Having two accounts and having to sign in and authorize/deauthorize is a pain.

  • I finally got it so to pass on a few tips for others;

    • I found a USD $0.41 option: Johnny Cash Ring of Fire

    • You never need to be in the Audible.com.au site

    • Use a different browser for each account. ie. internet explorer. clear the cookies then log into your Australian addressed account from the .com site: www.audible.com

    • Use the 'redeem' button link from the 'You've received a gift' email to get to the redemption code screen. Just make sure you are on the Aus account browser and paste the address in.

    • I found I had to have one copy of the audiobook in my library then the subsequent gifts would become a credit.

Now lets just hope this exploit doesn't go down in a ring of fire….

    • This book is redeemable on the AUS account …
Edit: strange..the book got redeemed first time, but turned into credit the second time :/

  • I'm interested in knowing when and where you guys listen to your audio books. Do you do it only when doing something else? Or do you do it lying on a bed, sitting in a chair with eyes closed, while you're exercising, or something? I suck at multi tasking, so I can't be on the computer and listening to it or I'll only be paying attention to one and not the other.

I used to be able to listen to them at work, but my boss caught me a few times and I can't anymore. It was perfect when I could. That was the only time I've ever enjoyed going to work.

    • I listen mostly on public transport going to/from work. Otherwise, I listen to audiobooks when I'm driving instead of listening to radio music.

      • So noisy on public transport.. I can't immerse myself in a book when there's this much noise around me, just like how most people can't watch a movie when people don't shut up.

        • Invest in either noise cancelling or isolating earbuds or headphones for public transport. Isolating earbuds are cheap. Decent closed headphones with ok isolation are not expensive either - with audiobooks you don't really need great sound. As a bonus you are protecting your hearing from all the noise on public transport. Use closed headphones please if you do go ahead :-) , not leaky earbuds / earphones, where you are isolated but half the carriage can hear what you are listening to.

    • Long drives.

      • How much driving do you do a week? And how long does it take to finish listening to a typical novel?

        • I hardly drive at all on a weekly basis. I ride a bike to work. i save my audiobooks for my holiday driving so I can listen to them in one hit. Audiobooks tend to run between 4 to 6 hours. I go for humour audiobooks by comedians which makes long drives very enjoyable, laughing along with the family.

    • I listen at work with one earbud. I find that it doesn't interfere with my productivity most of the time, but I will pause the audiobook when I need to write something (e-mails, reports, etc). My office is pretty noisy so I can actually concentrate more with the audiobook on. I use a budget noise cancelling earbuds, mine is this one

Sometimes I listen before bed using 30mins timer and during commute to work (30mins each way). Probably take me 3-4 days to finish one book, any longer than that means the book doesn't really grab my attention and I will move on to another book.

  • Didn't work. That book is available in Australia I think no . How to find usa only titles?

  • These books are now available in Australia. So, doesn't work anymore.

Easy way to find USA only books?

    • Are you sure? When I'm logged in the AU account and click the link of the book, it's saying not available in your region. Either way, you can still gift the book, redeem it the first time, but the 2nd time onwards it will be converted as credit (as you'd already given the book). Regardless of region availability. Give it a try and pm me if you need any help!

      • Thanks. I appreciate your reply!
